Tanglewood Pediatric Dentistry, Houston TX

Beware: Lip/Tongue tie diagnosis and procedure. Here’s what happened with us. Right after our daughter’s 1st birthday, we took her to West U Pediatric Dentistry (same doctor/ownership as Tanglewood) for her first dentist appointment. We were expecting just an initial cleaning, counting teeth, etc etc but they caught us off guard when they told us she had a “very pronounced” lip and tongue tie and would need a procedure to correct both.

They told us without this procedure, she would experience delays with speech and eating. They also said she would suffer breathing and orthodontic issues later in life. On top of this - they told us if we did not do this procedure within 2 months, she would have to be put under anesthesia for it since she would be too big to swaddle. We were given pricing and paperwork and told each procedure would be $1,500, more if we needed anesthesia.

As you might imagine we were blindsided and our initial reaction was “we will do whatever it takes for our daughter”, but felt uncomfortable with the entire visit so decided to discuss with our pediatrician first. Our wonderful pediatrician told us not to proceed with any procedures without a second opinion from a Texas Children’s ENT. We scheduled with the ENT and saw her today.

The doctor said her lip and tongue are both within the normal range and that we “shouldn’t consider releasing either any time soon. ”

She said there has been a national trend of overprescribing the procedure for lip and tongue release, and there is a national board that has now drafted protocols for when it actually needs to be done. She said our daughter doesn’t meet those criteria by any stretch.

She also asked how much the dentist was charging. When we told her $1,500, she said that was outrageous. She recommended we not respond to them and find another dentist, which we have already done.

TLDR; get a second opinion and trust your instinct.

Dr. Gandhi has been treating our children for over a year. My wife and I have nothing but good things to say about our experience.

Our youngest has always had sleeping and tummy issues since birth. He screamed, he was gassy and an overall unsettled baby. His tests all came back normal. As he got older, he had multiple surgeries including failed tubes and his tonsils and adenoids removed. Despite these surgeries, he still did not sleep through the night and snored and his mouth was always open. When my wife brought him back to our ENT for answers, we were told that he would eventually grow out of it and it would correct itself. A 6 year old should be getting good sleep and sleeping throughout the night. After a bit of research, we found Dr. Gandhi. Since getting an airway assesment and starting expansion, we are now sleeping throughout the night, no longer mouth breathing, and the dark under eye circles are gone! We have seen positive strides in our child.

Our second son is getting ready to go into expansion for his undiagnosed ties that are causing chronic symptoms. Both our neurologist and chiropractor agree with Dr. Gandhi's assesment.

When going in for a routine cleaning for our older teens, Dr. Gandhi did notice that they had some airway issues that may present in the future but we were never pressured into treatment. We were just made aware and discussed the pros and cons of the issues within their mouth and agreed to watch and wait.

We are very thankful for the experience that we have had at West U pediatric dentistry. Our one regret was not finding them sooner. My wife and I both agree that our babies would have been much more content if their ties had been addressed when they were babies.

Dr. Ghandi is an absolute amazing doctor. She explained everything to us & answered any questions we had. Tongue and Lip ties are more common than we realized. We are so glad she fixed our sons. He’s feeling so much better post procedure. We would highly recommend Dr. Ghandi.

My little one had his tongue tie release with Dr. Gandhi who was incredible and extremely skilled. My older one had an airway consult.

I’ve been bringing my baby to TPD since she was 3 weeks old. The entire team is so professional and the facilities feel new and clean. Our daughter had her tongue tie release at 5 weeks old and it changed our lives - her feeding and growth improved tremendously. The team’s chiropractor, Dr. Poole, is absolutely amazing. We still come to see her monthly. She works with our baby and makes sure she is meeting milestones and gives us stretches and exercises we can do at home. I can’t imagine where we would be without this team. Beyond grateful we found them!

Dishonest and Corrupt People

This location is a fraud. They used my daughter’s comprehensive annual benefits for a regular visit (which was less than 5 min)
Their financial manager said that we consented for it but we hit back on her lie and said we never did that and she agreed to their fault. We were ready for out of pocket cost but they cheated on us. The financial manager ran away from call once her lie was caught.

They did not give us the option to go for a cleaning option only which is covered by insurance. They just wanted money in an unethical and corrupt way.

Be very careful before going to them. Ask everything explicitly before wasting your time. Houston certainly has well qualified and honest doctors than this location. Front desk girl does not know anything. She only does her job whatever management ask her to do in order to cover up their lie.

Dr Ghandi is amazing and so personable. She is quick and precise and very knowledgeable. She made sure myself and my baby was doing well. She even personally called to check on us the next day. It felt nice knowing she actually cared.

As the other low review they have on here states, they do treatment plans “they recommend” and don’t let you know the prices beforehand. We have a $400 outstanding bill because of X-rays my 3 year got that didn’t need. He’s never had a cavity, he doesn’t have tooth pain, he has great teeth, but they wanted to do high tech X-rays for him regardless and then send the bill. I’m sure 99% of patients they serve can afford this, but they leave out the other 1% in such an inequitable way.

Had a very positive and pleasant experience today. My daughter had a tongue revision. It went very smoothly and the teams were very considerate and helpful! Would recommend to anyone to use Dr. Ghandi for revisions or just regular dental visits.

Dr. Gandhi was nothing short of amazing! She was so kind, gentle and understanding.
She answered every question and concern very thoroughly with great knowledge about lip and tongue ties.
