Texas Department of Public Safety reviews
17Got their at 4: 40am, was a walk in. There were already like 6 people ahead of me. I expected their to be a line early, but what I didn’t expect was half of those 6 people had their families come right before opening which made the line longer. Was I annoyed? A little but would I do it for my wife and kid? Yeah. All in all, if you have your documents it’s a super smooth process. I’d rate it a 5 if the appointment system wasn’t so bad, but get there not later than 5am if you’re doing walk in.
When you have 10+ people waiting 3 hours before open to get a same day appointment, you just know these offices are severely understaffed, 2-3 months wait for an appointment is ridiculous.
Great service. Very cooperative people.
Tips:
Get an appointment (check multiple times for early appointment)
Do online check-in to shorten wait time
Get the documents printed and handy
I tried doing walk in 3 days straight. And they told me to do an appointment. Appointments are like 5 months out.
This appointment system is the most infuriating and obnoxious thing ever. Don't bother trying to get a walk in. They open walk ins for maybe 20 people and the rest are sent home.
I typically respect people with difficult jobs. 5/10/2023 8: 35 am the woman working the door at this office wouldn’t even let me ask a question before repeatedly shouting to go wait at the back of the line. I suggest trying another location.
Made an appointment, came in and was taken care of. There is a young man working there called Daniel - very organized and professional. I think he might be President someday!
No one's fault at this location-not blaming them. But I can't believe we have to make appointments to get driver's license renewals now! (1) This would've been nice to know before I wasted time getting ready and driving to the DPS office. Make some sort of announcement. (2) The soonest appointment is more than a month out. This is ridiculous-this used to be a walk-in-and-wait service. The pandemic is no longer a major consideration in how we do most of our daily tasks-but for some reason, DPS has chosen to inconvenience the entire state of Texas.
I understand that for their staff, the change in pace was probably very welcome-but now my driver's license is going to expire because no one announced that appointments were necessary, and because the wait for appointments is so long. If you can't get appointments the same week, y'all need to hire more people. It's not right to make the public wait this long for necessary services that we could be fined (or worse) for not having up to date.
Has always provided for our community and continues to do what it needs to do to make it better.
No one likes going to the DMV, but this experience was a big improvement over prior trips. The appointment process really helps. It does take 2 months to get one. However, they do text you with updates. My first appointment was scheduled for the day the ice storm hit. They texted me to let me know their offices were closing. The actual experience is a breeze if you read through their directions and bring the necessary paperwork. Wait was still an hour, but there is plenty of seating. Staff was friendly.
I went there for renew my license. All staff was very helpful and polite and Ms Shelby was very best. Thanks
Despite having an appointment, I still had to wait 45 minutes only to be told that the background check system was down and I’d have to come back another day to finish the process. I came in the next morning to finish and still had to wait awhile. The process and system is a mess at this specific location, but at least the employees are kind despite having a frustrating job.
Legally you have to change your ID within 30 days of moving to Texas. I went online to make an appointment & the soonest available appointment is 6 months out. So I did a little research & learned they have a few same day walk in appointments. We arrived at 4: 45am and was shocked to find that there was already people waiting! I was 6th in line and the line quickly grew! Once the doors opened at 8am everything was smooth & well organized! Can't speak for thoes well behind us.
White Lady in front with blue hair is rude. She is not helpful at all. She couldn’t answer any questions, she shouldn’t be working up front. If she can’t help anyone why is she working up In The front. I bet she thought I was an illegal person. But surprise I had an appt so there was no reason for her to be rude. Do better DPS train your employees better. No need for her to be rude when the only question I asked was “can appointments go inside”?
Have to give a thumb up to the lovely staff, Chelsea and Amanda. They made the process went smoothly. The staff are very helpful and friendly (both the smile and the way they talk). This must be the best DMV experience I ever have within the four different states I have stayed.
Walk-ins are allowed but you will make an appointment once inside and will have to wait. All in all not bad to get license for the kiddo. There were about 35 people in line before they opened at 8am and they took anyone that had appointments first. And they constantly came outside and asked for anyone who had an appointment.
If I could have done one thing different, don't get there first thing in the morning, wait for the rush and walk in around 9ish. Enjoy.
I booked an appointment online and got one 2 and a half months out. I needed a license renewal sooner for employment verification, so I decided to walk in. Stood in the cold for an hour before I was sent away and told to book an appointment online.because each branch, at a completely different and arbitrary times, offers some same day appointments that you must book online.
But when I go to the website to try to get an appointment that same day, I can't book another because I already have an appointment 2 and a half months away. Website won't let me cancel and when I email customer service I do not get a response. I have been stuck in this cycle for weeks.
This might be what hell is.
