I've never shopped here but I absolutely wouldn't at this point. Parked in front of their business for 5 minutes to unload. I am a commercial business. It says commercial businesses can unload where I was unloading. But yet I had a lady come out and start griping at me within 2 minutes of being parked and pulling product for my job out of my vehicle. Didn't give me the opportunity to see if I was going to move my vehicle. Just very disrespectful. Don't like dealing with Karen's.

PRO'S: The Austin Wine Merchant may be the finest wine store in Texas for unusual and hard to find wines in EVERY price range. Knowledgeable personnel and a large wine selection make exploring the aisles an adventure.

CON'S: A smallish parking lot in a downtown location, occasionally challenging

SUMMARY: The Austin Wine Merchant is worth the two hour drive to explore, find & enjoy new and hard to find wines.

The Austin Wine Merchant is the BEST wine shop in town! If you are looking for a fantastic selection of old world wines and top notch customer service; look no further. They also have a great selection of spirits and the prices are competitive. Five stars!

I'm a huge fan of Austin Wine Merchant - a thoughtful, well-curated collection of delicious wines, they never fail to turn me on to new bottles.

At some point, I realized that, rather than roll the dice at some other wine shops around town, it was a better Return on Investment to call these guys, ask for a selection of 6-12 bottles, give them a price range (which - ahem- for me is low-ish, like under $25/bottle, for sure), tell them a few likes and dislikes, and say "surprise me. " I have yet to be disappointed.

Did not have the time to walk around and purchase their wines due to running late for a flight, but the Austin Wine Merchant was amazingly helpful after a day of exploring Hill Country and acquiring a number of wines. They were able to help us secure and package wines to ship home. They even helped us pack and tape the wines we brought in. Super nice and helpful people. Will be coming to check out their selection the next time we’re in Austin.

This is hands down the best wine shop in Austin, if not in all of Texas. They have an amazing selection of Burgundian wines as well as many other French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Austrian wines. There is a large selection of domestic wines and spirits. They keep the temperature at a cool 60 degrees so the wines are all stored in optimal conditions. Go and let them help you pick out some fine wines!

I live out of State and used this business to send a gift. They were very helpful. I would reccomend them to anyone in need of help.

Brian is the best Sommelier to help you select from all the amazing wines. He will advise you professionally and personably after he gets to know you. John Roenigk has built an institution of a boutique wine shop. There is no bad wine in the entire shop so you can’t go wrong to buy local and let them guide you from one bottle to cases for your collection.

Great staff and knowledge on all things wine and spirits. They can get you anything you need and answer all your questions.

One of the best wine shops in the country, no exaggeration. Very deep selection, especially in Burgundy and Riesling. Personal and knowledgeable service. All this and better prices in general than at so-called discount liquor stores like Specs.

The most helpful and courteous service - I called from another state to get a next day delivery to a local hotel for a special occasion. The team hand-picked wines to suit and were incredibly helpful making all of the arrangements. We'll definitely be back.

Terrible customer service. There are plenty of other great places to buy wine. Don’t waste your time making an appointment to shop here for wine. Their markup is high compared to other wine shops.

Knowledgeable staff who go out of their way to get exactly what you want. On the off chance they don't have it, they'll try to order it and if that doesn't work, they know the next best replacement. Looking forward to being able to browse their shop in person!

Best wine store in Austin, hands down. John and Lucinda have owned this place for decades and are knowledgeable and attentive to their customers. Brian Smith has also been there for a long time and knows his stuff. If you are an old world wine fan, their selection is amazing, and good prices too.

Austin Wine Merchant is my favorite place to buy liquor in Austin. They have superb customer service and if they don't carry what you want they will try to get it for you. It is always enjoyable to go there and they have lots of things that you can't find anywhere else. They have a parking lot which is a huge plus. I love Austin Wine Merchant.
