7 This is our go-to place every friday night, with a live band playing ballroom music from 8-11 pm, a mix of mainly waltz, foxtrot, tango, swing, rumba, chacha, samba and some CW. Very sophisticated but friendly crowd, both singles and couples, of fairly accomplished amateur dancers in the 40-70 age group. Space can accommodate up to 80 people. Smart casual attire. No food though, just soft drinks. $15 per head entrance fee. Located at Beltway 8 west and Bellaire blvd, in Chinatown.
Downside = Parking is usually difficult, because of the superb Korean bbq restaurant downstairs that draws huge crowds (typically 40-60 minute wait), but the parking lot of the adjacent bldg (a short walk) is available for overflow.
My favorite place in Houston to learn and dance the lindy hop. The Houston Swing Dance Society does an amazing job of building this swing scene in the city. This is a wonderful venue with a wonderful dance floor. We are so lucky to get to dance here.
It's very hot in the summer so bring a large water bottle. But a great place to always swing
This was my first time coming to the Dance Place. I found it to be very welcoming with an excellent dance floor terrific band and lots of people to dance with I will be coming back soon.
