The I-20 Wildlife Preserve & Jenna Welch Nature Study Center reviews
6Awesome place to take portraits and hike. This place almost transports you to the Texas Hill country with all the trees and flowers, right here in West Texas.
There use to be so much life here. The water was always full even in the hot, seems like they took the water out and all the critters frogs, crabs, possums, wild cats etc have vanished, I don't see how that much water just dries up in such a short period of time. None the less it's still a good spot to walk and discover.
This place is extraordinary! Who would think that an amazing birding preserve would be squeezed between business I-20 and the freeway? ! We saw Mississippi kites, Verdin, and bullocks orioles there, along with a bunch of other birds and animals! Just amazing!
I visited during March and there was no water in the middle area but it was still a beautiful walk. There's a spot with bird feeders and it's magical sitting and watching them all. I probably saw 50+ species of birds while sitting for a half hour watching. Also saw some little lizards and a rabbit!
Trail says no dogs unless it's a service animal.
It's a drainage ditch with snakes and loud noises from oil field facilities next door. What a joke.
Absolutely wonderful experience, trees and shrubs were mostly dormant due to the season, but nature in its natural state is beautiful year round. So quiet and calming, stress levels gone at the gate, so much to see. Can walk for hours and enjoy the fresh air and get much needed exercise, great place for elderly as well as children.can't believe this is in midland and free, unlike any trails built by the city. I live across Ulmer park, no trails, just thorns.thank you for creating this great place and sharing it! Isabel R.
