The Jalapeno Tree, Athens TX

We were seated quickly but this was not a reflection of the service. Although the server was friendly and kind the kitchen and bar did not do her any favors. We ordered drinks and queso, we got them about 20 minutes later. Then another drink and food which took about 30-35 minutes. They brought part of his dinner (puffy taco) randomly way before the rest was served.
The puffy taco was bad, the queso tasted like that cheap nacho cheese you get out of a can.
By the time we were brought our food we were full and barely ate any. We are staying at a hotel so it was a big waste of money since we couldn't take it and reheat it.
That being said the poblano and charro beans were great and he loved the beef enchiladas with con carne (chili) on it. The salsa was good but the white dip (no idea what it was) did not have flavor.
One thing that surprised the hell out of us is that the margaritas we ordered were $15 each! I wish they listed the price because it was great but that blew my whole dinner budget for the next day. I didn't expect to spend $100 on tex-mex.
The decor is super cute and the staff is friendly and welcoming.
If this place made a few, small changes they would be fantastic. Try and get peoples drinks to them more quickly and the food service was slow, for a Monday especially.

Service was EXCELLENT from Melissa. I have visited the Jalapeño Tree in Nacogdoches several times and the meat has a better flavor. The fajita nachos in Athens were bland. The beef was pink in the middle and had no taste. The chicken also had little flavor. My wife loved her meal and I liked mine, just wish they could replicate the taste of the meat from the other location.

Had lunch today. Drove for 2 hours for family get together. Excellent food. Wide verity of choices on the menu. Waitress was the best. There were 7 of us. She was cheery, knowledgeable about all the items on the menu.extremely accommodating, and efficient. THE BEST!

We went and ate here last night. While normally the for is great I had a bowl of beans that weren't cooked all the way. So for this I will only give you 2 stars. I feel as restaurant you shouldn't be serving food that isn't fully cooked.

Update on November 29,2021
We went to the Athens location and I had a grilled chicken dish. I woke up the next morning at 3am with severe cramps and diarrhea for 2 days. Beware of this location.

The make your own combo is fabulous. I had a soft chicken taco a chicken chulipa and their tortilla soup OMG so good. Served with beans and rice was more than enough. And of course I had to have a margarita. Love me some Jalapeno Tree.

Food was okay, we were looking for authentic Mexican food that served breakfast like menudo, caldo, beans with eggs and bacon, breakfast tacos. Service was great but not a fan of the food.

This place is fantastic, the food is always delicious, the drinks are good and most of the employees are very kind and assisting.
My only complaint would be due to the long wait times that they have at times, I understand the issues they have been going through, just would like to see if they could improve on this issue.

Our experience here in the past has always been so so. But I decided to give it another try. I'm glad I did because it seems they really have stepped it up. Service was good food was really good. Hopefully they continue their new found ways. I would say if your in town give it a try.

Below average quality Tex-Mex fare. The salsa does not have any flavor profile, chips taste store bought, food service is very slow. Redeeming qualities are the super hot and fresh flour tortillas and margaritas pack a punch. Overall, you could just pick any chain Mexican restaurant and have the same or better experience.

Hamburger buns were soggy and took a long time to get another bun. The manager did make adjustments for it. The waitress was very polite, attentive, and sweet.

Our experience here in the past has been rough.
We stopped in tonight to receive a pleasant surprise! Great waiter (Aaron) and a nice meal it was worth it this time.
Ask for him, he does a great job.

Food was ok.service was interesting. Lots of excuses given of why long wait for everything. Salsa dropped all over someone in my party. I would've expected a manager to come over and apologize, maybe comp something. Neither happened. Margaritas very good. The only highlight of the visit

Pretty good experience here. Sour cream ranch dip sauce for the chips was awesome, and they brought all 3 of us each our own sour cream dip and salsa, which we really appreciated. Flour tortillas were also awesome, they were fluffy and soft and made in house and tasted great. Also if you order a margarita, make sure to specify the size, our server brought a huge one and we didn't realize there were smaller ones available. But the food was pretty good, nothing crazy, but satisfying. The build your own combo was great bang for your buck, the value is good. The 'burrito' under the combo option was pretty much just a tortilla rolled with pulled chicken or ground beef, probably closer to an enchilada but instead of enchiladas sauce you could get queso, Chile, or a number of other sauces on top of them. But the flavors were good, I left very full and satisfied. Our server Chineya was new but did a great job, it was funny, after taking our order maybe 10mins later she came back and tried to take our order a second time, and had a few other silly gaffes but was very attentive and kind, anticipated our needs, and even offered us some additional fresh tortillas without us requesting them which was awesome. Also there were signs inside the restaurant noting they are short on staff, but it didn't seem understaffed to us.

I ordered nachos. All I got was chips with melted cheese & cut up pieces of meat. I took it back told them I wanted regular nachos. When he returned with my order it was the same thing I returned same thing

The food here, consistently, is pretty good. I usually get the Jack Nicholson which is a beef and chicken skewer. The service is not that great. You may or may not get a polite greeting. I have encountered a few servers with attitudes. I mainly place to-go orders. Often times they have forgotten items. The wait is usually 20 minutes more than the time they give you. However, a few times the managers were extremely apologetic and corrected the errors made. I have had some good experiences, and the food is delicious which I way I keep coming back.

We usually order our food to go; about a month ago I ordered Fajita Enchiladas and Del Rio burrito dinners; got home and there was no beef fajitas on the enchiladas. Called the restaurant and was told I could come pick up another order - I declined because we don’t live in town. A manager got on the phone and told me he would credit the one dinner and I would see it on my card the next morning; never happened. I shouldn’t have to waste my time trying to get them to do the right thing on their screw-ups.

The food was really good! We were seated fast & appetizers were served in a timely manner. They are short on staff so it took a little bit of time to get our food. Overall it's was a nice dinner.

This is by far one of my favorite places to eat! The staff are so nice & considerate! They really do an awesome job of making sure they're customers needs are taken care of & they just make eating there an overall great experience!

I previously gave them 4 stars. Only reason was the music was off in the back room. The clanking of forks and knives on plates does not set an ambient mood. Last time I visited the music was at a perfect level. I give them 5 stars.

It was like being in a garage having your car worked on with sloppy dressed and loud wait staff that couldn't get a simple order right
