The Loc Den, Houston TX

Expected a deeper, intensive wash of my locs. I got a retwist and asked my locs be double stranded. The double strands were not as tight or neat as I would like. Overall it was about a $60 job that I received, not the $125 I paid.

I paid $25 for a video consultation and no one showed. After 20 minutes of waiting I went to their website to try and call someone and clicking on the numbers brought me to yahoo instead of initiating a call. I finally typed in the numbers and no one answered either of them. The owner called me back and then did a very short video consultation. She said she would have to see my hair to make any choices (then why even have a video consultation? !) and asked me to drive and see her the next morning. There is a location 10 minutes from my house but she requested I meet her at the one almost an hour away. I got up the next morning and drove an hour to see her and SHE DID NOT SHOW. After being stood up twice and shelling out $25 for nothing, I decided to look elsewhere.

Do NOT go here. Its a shady operation and the owner Shenate is very unprofessional. I took my son there for starter locs. I asked for an experienced loctician but was basically told its a revolving door and everyone is practically new. First red flag. Im like ok, my son starts school in 2 days so lets proceed. The stylist name Kenadi started on my son an hour after the appointment time. I let that slide. Then they tell me the owner said I needed to wait in my car so I wouldn’t be “hovering over” the stylist. Second red flag. I went ahead and gave her space because of course i dont want any intimidation to interfere with her work. Big mistake. When my son came out of the booth it was complete trash. She did NOT do locs. They were these huge two strand twists our grandmas did back in the day. The parts were uneven, roots bulky, just a mess. I said to the owner what is this? Theres no way his hair would begin to loc. She had the nerve to say oh its because of his hair texture. Instead of this fool asking if its anything she can do to correct it she says “you’re banned from here”. Banned? As if I would ever come back.the unfortunate part was my son looking in the mirror saying how disappointed he was at how it turned out. I would never send my child to school like this, thank God i was able to get a professional loctician from another salon to squeeze him in. We had to take down, wash and start all over but its well worth it. Supporting black owned businesses is great but choose your salons and stylists wisely! Let the photo speak for itself and we ALL know the owner Shenate is going to send a counter respond to this review with lies. Focused on responding to reviews instead of TRAINING her so called junior staff.

I personally had an awesome experience yesterday. The establishment opened on time and the owners ensured I had the color that I wanted with guidance on the correct kind for my hair. They checked on me frequently and made sure that I was happy with my results. I appreciate a black owned business that caters to our black community and promotes growth within their clients in addition to providing self made products and next steps especially for our locs. Monty was my stylist and he was warm and inviting! I will definitely go back.

I visited the Loc Den for the first time outside my consultation on Aug 25; MY BIRTHDAY! Ms Shanaye (owner) took care of me personally. She went above and beyond to ensure i left her shop satisfied and with a smile! After finishing the results exceeded my expectations! Even had a barber round the way available for finishing touches! Great energy all around. Definitely recommend.

Horrible service from the moment we walked in. No greeting or any professional manner in which we were addressed. Misleading descriptions of services provided and was told when we arrived that the service would be 30 minutes longer because she had other people to work on. When it was clear we would not receive the actual service we asked for I paid for the subpar wash and left. Do not waste your time or money with this so called salon.

DO NOT BOOK UNDER KIKI I NO LONGER WORK HERE! For some reason the owner (Shenate) likes to fire people and keep them on the website. Please don’t be fooled bc they won’t give you that deposit back either!

ZERO STARSDon’t waste your time! Or your money! You try to support black owned businesses, but they are a bunch of crooks that need to go back to school to further advance their trade. Just sad, could of got my son hair done by my little 12 year old niece for the quality! Overpriced and NOT OFFICIAL! And customer service is horrible at best and that’s being nice. It’s all family owned so the family is always right and the clients will always be wrong and just another $, Surprised they last this long!

Been going for years and sadly i no longer will be returning. They are ALWAYS late. There was even a time where I was on the phone arguing with the manager. I wish them well

I got an estimate from the shop and booked a 4hr maintenance session, per thrir suggestion. I waited in a messy room for 45 minutes after my appointment time. After 4 hrs not even half my hair was done. So now I'm $340 out and look worse than I did when I started.

Did not agree with customer service they over charge I really wasn’t happy with hair style and the girl that did my hair was cool but didn’t know how to do certain styles for the price it’s a hell no for me

My services has continuously been Astounding. All of my desired styles been achieved here at the Loc den to note, this been a true blessing to my crown, skilled work that was put in was professional, a game changer indeed, promoting healthy sustainable hair for continuous growth. The management, work ethics, effort is 5 star no less, you’ll have a great skill I’m truly appreciative, keep the positive flow with helping bring luxurious locs to people with great ability.

Keisha was phenomenal, thorough and left me looking good. She also plays classic RnB in the booth during the retwist. The whole shop is a vibe, professional, and good time. Bring cash to tip your loctician…even though they take card, you can’t tip at checkout.

A very shady and dishonest salon.
The salon has good stylists, but the manager/owner is very rude.the price was increased by $90 while my hair was almost finished.the price I was told when I came in changed, and when I tried to described the front desk who attended to me, the manager denied there was no male at her salon, clearly it was a male at the front desk who checked me in. If there were conditions that warrant prices to be changed, make it express and clear on your website or by your employees when people come in, there should be no surprises on price, that’s very dishonest!

The manager was so rude in her communication, telling the stylist to stop making my hair halfway until I make the payment that was wrongly changed on me.

I will not recommend!
