So I used to go to this gym and with all of the reviews talking about the customer service I feel like I have to give my take on it.
The gym itself
It's awesome you have so much equipment, literally everything you need. One of the only gyms in SA with reverse hyper AND a belt squat. Cool merch, a fridge with preworkouts and drinks, a wall of supplements. Outdoor area ground is a little uneven but they have several sleds and a lot of space/equipment out there as well. Some equipment is a little run down but overall is fantastic.

The rules
So there are a lot of rules unlike most gyms, I see both sides because I understand the the owners want a clean and organized environment. I think it does help with that but at the same time they can be rude about it. So if you mess up they will call you out but in a passive aggressive off putting way. For example, I was there lifting and I took my shoes off for deadlifts, the owner had another member tell me to put the shoes away but I just had them next to the squat rack not in the way or anything. There is a big difference between rules that need to be followed and rules that are there as almost as a form of control. It's off putting the way they are enforced, I've been to other gyms with a lot of rules but they approach them in a more friendly way and that gym is spotless.
The rules also make it hard to do certain things, so if you are using several things at once you might get some feedback. You have to stay within certain lines and sections when doing things. Can't do this in this section, can't do that in that section, that section is only for this, this equipment is only for that area. You don't feel free to train it feels like you are at work or something that is not a great feeling in a gym.

The owners
The owners love their gym and it's awesome to see. They are very involved in everything about the gym from events, to giveaways, to buying new equipment for the gym, they really try to bring the best gym to SA and they are doing a great job. HOWEVER, they are very passive aggressive and come off very rough if you are new. They are very close and friendly to their long time members. But if you are new you feel like you are being watched they almost want to flex about how many rules there are. Their approach might work for some people but for most people just looking to train with no distractions.the owners trying to analyze you will definitely throw you off. My first day training there trying to check in, the lady at the front desk looked at me like I was some dude about to rob the place. She said "can I help you? " In the most "who the heck are you.and what are you doing here" kind of way.

The owners argue with the honest responses on reviews. It's off putting but I get it cuz someone saying that the thing you've put a lot of love and energy into, is not the best or has issues.that can upset people. But I don't think arguing is the way to go.

Overall it's a cool gym but I definitely want to go back at some point. But keep in mind vibe and attitude there.

Amazing equipment and love the outdoor area. Not a fan of the overall attitude towards customers. JD treats people like he’s annoyed with them just for using the gym.

Unprofessional. Would not recommend. Bully their customers. And retaliate if you post an honest review on their business.

This gym is only for people with personal trainers and people who dont train hard. I dont recommend this gym to anyone who trains seriously. If you make a small mistake like forgetting to rerack a plate on a machine, the owner will call you, guilt trip you, and claim that he could of got hurt reracking a 45 pound weight a 100 pound girl could of reracked. Then he'll say "oh well I could of dropped the weight on my toe or hurt my back putting it up" even though theirs plenty of other ways to rerack plates safely. This gym tries to pose as a serious gym, but its not with all the nit picking staff from stuff being on the floor to forgetting to rerack weight. Bottom line good gym but bad owner.

Passive aggressive staff was my main tick. When I got a small tour it felt like I was being talked to like a child, don’t do this don’t do that etc.maybe it’s a mom and pop gym thing but just made me uncomfortable. Gym had good equipment thought such as they laying row thing and belt squat machine which are not common. Everything’s a little too crowded but if you don’t mind that or the douchy “hard core” people you’re fine. Not my taste but just heads up.

Old school gym with tons of equipment, parking can be a pain but besides that, a no b.s. Type of gym.

The representative or owner for this place is a rude bully that tries to intimidate people. Didn’t work today….

Lol…

The Pit is a great family run facility. The negative reviews are likely from people who aren't there to work, but spend their time taking pictures of themselves, hogging equipment, not wiping down their machines and not reracking.

It's simple: Treat the gym like you treat your home. No one is here to clean up after you. It's a group effort.

Don't come to The Pit and not be ready to work hard. This is not a boutique gym for bored housewives.

Great local establishment, I have been coming here for about two months now and have really made a lot of progress. It is family owned and operated and they're all nice and helpful. One of them even helped me fix my deadlift form when I was learning! Pretty much all the equipment you would need to train a variety of methods.

Update: I have been at this gym for a year and I feel like it's a wonderful place to pursue your fitness goals.

Ive been to all the gym on base and I like the Pit the best because people that go there ACTUALLY workout.super organized and clean and the rules are easy to follow because it feels like a home, you just want to clean up after yourself.people are curious of eachother and I think there is an understanding that we are all there to grow in some way and that's why I think everyone seems respectful.play of equipment for various workouts.fun times!

Very welcoming and nice experience, don't currently have a membership, but getting one soon. Family owned and the son, Kyle I think, helped me better understand gym Etiquette and what to expect when coming and gave much needed advice and tips for a beginner gym rat lol. Will definitely recommend and already saving up for their lovely merch.
