Not a good place to live if you want to live in a complex where everything doesn't break and doesn't get fixed for months!: D

Nice place, okay area, wifi hasn’t worked consistently for over a month. Was told by staff when I toured, wifi is never an issue here. But they have the ENTIRE COMPLEX ON 1 WIFI NETWORK? None of my devices are connecting. A student apartment with terrible wifi doesn’t add up lol. Sitting here in bed, sick, on a Saturday, can’t watch Tv, can’t work on homework, can’t do anything internet related. FIX YOUR WIFI. Oh yeah and you can’t register a guest’s vehicle more than 3 times in 7 days. You’re gonna have us pay rent and tell us we can’t have a guest at OUR place that WE pay for but only have 25 guest parking spots for this GIGANTIC place but oh yeah “you can have your guests park down the road at the hospital and pick them up”…weird. “Resign with us but the rents going up another $50-80” yeah nah. I have been here over a year and there’s still a giant hole in my wall outside my room where the A/C is because there was a leak in our unit when we first moved in, they still have not come to put the vent back on. The pool is DISGUSTING btw, they only clean it a week before new residents move in LOL got me. But wait there’s more…THERE’S TRASH EVERYWHERE! On the sidewalks, in the backyards, someone’s bumper to their car has been in the back of our unit for MONTHS…just sitting there. Our unit is legit the closest to the leasing office, how has no one came to get that yet? Like come on. There’s only one big trash dump for the entire place and no one ever places their trash in the dumpster fr. This place has so much potential and the staff for the most part is really cool and nice (that’s why I gave an extra star ️) but it just seems very unorganized and unprofessional. If you want to sit and stare at the wall all day I’d recommend moving here. Otherwise there’s plenty of other student apartment choices in Denton. RETREAT from this place.

The greediest, subpar, below standard housing ever. I dont even know where to start,

The parking is TERRIBLE.there are about only 25 guest parking spaces in total and they are located on the far left side of the complex. There are hardly any spaces available which forces guests to park outside of visitors and be subject to towing. If your guests park on the street, they will get towed there as well. When I asked the front desk where guests are expected to park when there's absolutely no guest parking spots available they told me at the hospital down the street. The hospital is a 15 minute walk from the complex. So they expect people to park offsite and walk 15 minutes to the complex or have a resident make trips just to take a visitor to and from their vehicle.

These apartments come with so many maintenance issues. I have only been living here for 3 months and my A/C has broken 3 times, my air vents have started leaking multiple times, and the water in my bathroom does not get hot, lukewarm at best. When my A/C broke the first time, I had to wait several days for them to fix it despite it being 100+ degrees outside at the time. And then they'll charge you an arm and leg for utilizes when the A/C literally goes out every month. You'll pay an additional $200 just for utilities on top of rent. The amount I pay to live here month to month is ridiculous especially given the subpar quality of these units.

Additionally, when I moved in the house was filthy.they hadn't cleaned the floors and there were dead bugs and roaches EVERYWHERE. Every time I call the front office the front desk is unorganized, and they never answer the phone.

Absolutely TERRIBLE parking! They tow like crazy! The guest parking spots are so limited and they are ALWAYS full after 8.

Your parking situation is pitiful, there is never any room for guests because only one section for guest parking was made

There is trash ALLLL over the place and our apartment had fleas within the first week of moving in. There is also not enough guest parking. The fact that we need to both register out car AND park in guest parking is absurd. The resident prior to me must have had a cat because my carpet smells so badly of cat litter. I was super excited to live here but with the fleas, parking, and lack of cleanliness I am very disappointed. The rent is too high to have our backyard surrounded with trash/dog poop and cat pee in our rooms.

I've lived year for a year now and it was great. Maintenance came by quickly, my side of the complex was quiet and I felt safe. Now though, we got new management and they screwed up everything. I see them tow at least 3 cars a day, which costs $400 just to get back from half a mile down the road. They wouldn't need to be towed if visitor parking wasn't at the very end of the left side of the complex with only about 25 spots. They used to let people park in front of the houses because there's so much free space that residents don't use, but now they've gone and changed this which has significantly ruined people's experiences. Management is just money hungry and doesn't understand we're college students and don't exactly have funds to pay $400 to get our car back. Plus, you can only have a guest car registered for only up to 3 days a week. Say goodbye to gas, having to pick someone up just to hangout at your house and then having to drop them off and come back again. I can't just invite my boyfriend who lives 30 minutes away because guest parking is ALWAYS taken up.

On top of all that, they started closing the main entrance gate, and they have yet to fix my login info to get into the gate after I've repeatedly asked them to. They don't get things done, they make it worse. The side gate is also broken and they haven't fixed it in about a week, which is a huge safety hazard!

Find somewhere else if you can, I know I'll be out of here when my lease is up if they don't stop being lazy and overly strict. I live in a decent house and it's close to UNT but don't let that sell you on staying here.

Room size was okay, bathroom is really small compared to most student complexes, kitchen/common areas/furniture were fine, management was a mess and mislead/lied about a host of issues ranging from guest parking problems to issues regarding a problematic ex roommate when they wouldn’t do anything to help my friends and i feel safe. It’s not the worst student living complex but to sum it up i would not recommend living here.

I currently live at Retreat and my experience has been terrible. I moved in August 17th, I got my keys and went into my apartment. When I walked into my apartment it was filthy! I found beetles in bedroom carpet, spider webs in every corner of the house, carpet was not clean, floors were dirty/mucky, there was old stains on the floor, baseboards are filthy, hair all over the carpets, appliances broken, roaches in my kitchen (under the fridge), dead bugs everywhere and the list goes on. My roommates toilet didn’t work and her sink was broken. Once I seen this I put in maintenance requests and sent emails to the office about all of the problems that I’ve had. I didn’t get a response at all, & when I finally did get a response (days later) they did the bare minimum but didn’t clean my house at all. The only things that was done was my sink because it was over flowing as the water ran. I went up to the office and told them about my problems and I was told I needed to wait on maintenance because there are over 300 new residents and if it’s not an a/c matter then it’s not serious. I was then told by Ashley to email Skylar Shields about my concerns/issues, which was done the same day and a meeting was arranged. When I had a meeting with Skylar it didn’t resolve anything. All I got was a $75 gift card & a sorry for everyone. This is the worst experience I’ve had with moving into an apartment and the apartment have not taken me serious. Till this day Sept. 1st my house is still dirty, everything isn’t fixed and I have to live in filth and clean what I can because I cannot break my lease. I have not heard back when it comes to cleaners cleaning my apartment or any of the above. No one in the office have taken any action to make sure that all issues are resolved. I’ve paid a full month’s rent in August to not only be able to move in till the 17th but then to pay again Sept 1st and live in a house that’s not even worth living in.

A fun place for student living! Spacious apartments, and plenty of clean organized amenities. The staff here is also super nice:)

Cassidy, the leasing manager at The Retreat at Denton has been outstanding from the application process through and up to the move-in date. Cassidy is not only professional, she is thorough and follows up with action. This is my daughter’s first time ever living off campus and as a mother I am extremely pleased that she and I selected not only a beautiful place for her to live but a place where management sees to the needs of their residents. If you need clarification, something done or just someone who knows the property really well, the person to speak to is Cassidy. She is a gem and the Retreat is fortunate to have an individual like Cassidy who represents them in such a positive, honest and welcoming light!

I did not have a great time at The retreat for the two months I’ve stayed there. There was terrible communication on the management part. They let me know very late about my move in date and did not clarify to me that the lease starting date and the move in date were two different dates and I came all the way from Michigan. Next, the dumpster is probably the worst place you can be. It has never been cleaned up. There’s trash everywhere around the dumpster and if you touch even the railings I’m sure you would get a disease. The pool is also not that clean and many times closed. Lastly, the type of people that live here are okay it’s expected for college people to party. But they are disgusting and filthy. Nobody knows how to clean here including the management. I HIGHLY do not recommend.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Recently, my sister signed a lease to be with her 3 friends. They all signed and received the same house. Fast forward a couple weeks, and without reasonable notice (in the lease it says 5 days notice, they were given 24 hours), they have now placed all 4 friends in separate houses all due to what they say are allergy reasons. Between who? All the friends who agreed and want to live in the same house? They have emailed us today (right before closing time, typical) to tell them that there is nothing they can do and that they have to honor their lease. If they do not want to live in the house they assigned to each of them, they will have to pay their first month's rent and pay a $500 breaking lease fee.

This is robbery and completely unprofessional. Make sure you have your house guaranteed before you sign with the Retreat or else they can place you somewhere random, away from your friends, and say "oops, oh well. "
