The Roof, Sugar Land TX

Okay so, I literally live so close to this place that I’m actually ashamed that I hadn’t been sooner. My husband and I have been saying we’d come for years and well, you know—life. My own mother has been more than a few times than I have, sadly.anyway! We arrived quite late actually because we’re parents and trying to get kids situated with a sitter or giving our 14 year old the rundown on what to do and what not to do with a 2 year old.but I digress.

I advised my husband that most restaurant kitchens close at 10 but he still wanted to go and take a chance. We arrive literally at 10! (*face palm*) Didn’t take long for someone to greet us, in fact, I believe we were greeted by the manager, perhaps maybe even the owner, I’m not sure, but she was super cool and had a funny personality. I HATE I didn’t get her name! I explained to her that I advised my hubs on the normal time restaurant kitchens close but it was our first time there so we “could’ve” been wrong.nope, I was right—BUT (and a big BUT), she was kind enough to go into the kitchen and “see what she could do”.

To our surprise, the staff agreed to prepare a meal for my husband and I. I was very impressed with this accommodation. Mind you, we’re just regular people, with regular decent paying jobs—not big shots rolling around Sugar Land in our foreigns. We were seated and was explained that it was pretty chill and quiet at the time we arrived, but it can get quite busy and a little loud since they have a DJ there (by the way, he played some good tunes that night). She advised us to definitely make reservations for any other visit we decide to make. We ordered drinks and our food. I had the Sugar Land Sidecar and my husband had a mule. Both drinks were super good and not even close to being weak or too sweet. We even had a second round! We ordered the calamari to start and while it was extremely fresh and cooked perfectly, the sauce lacked the oomph we were seeking. It wasn’t BAD, but it was like a marinara sauce plus it was a bit watery.

Now the main entrees……LET ME TELLLLLL YOUUUU! My husbands ribeye was “one of the BEST ribeyes he’s had in a long time” (his words). It was HOT, but not to the point you can’t enjoy it, it was moist, it was flavorful.it was just the bomb. Obviously now I’m speaking for myself as I had a couple of bites. Mama here had the salmon (held the shrimp as I’m allergic) and that baby was not only of a decent size, it was super moist, just how I cook my own, and the flavor was perfect, the spinach was perfect and the sauce? Wow! Everything was hot, fresh and DELICIOUS! I hate that some other reviews did not have the experience we had—I almost am jealous of myself for y’all.lol! Our server was a very nice gentleman and forgive me again, but I cannot remember his name.

Everything was definitely worth remembering, so don’t charge it to them, or my heart. I’m going to assume/blame the alcoholic beverages we consumed to my forgetfulness. We will be returning so when we do, I’ll update my review to INCLUDE both the lady and our servers names as they (along with the chef (*chefs kiss*) ALL deserve the praise for such an exceptional experience provided to my husband and I! Thank you, thank you, thank you! (July 30,2022 first visit)

My fiance and I finally had a Sunday available to grab a quick brunch here at THE ROOF. We arrived at 2: 45 with a not so warm welcome by hostess Kalitta, she had a very disgruntled attitude which prompt me to ask if they was open before sitting she said and I quote " kitchen closes at 3pm, you're cutting it close" she presumed with "follow me" very dry. She sat us in a area without a view remind you it was fairly empty when we ask to be sitted in a area with a view she said it's reserved for a 3pm, i said to her i thought kitchen was closing, she said they had reservations they arrived at 3: 45pm with a supposedly closed kitchen. Our food came out in a timely manner and it was hot. I had the lamb chops, eggs and mash potatoes the lamb was the only edible food the rest was tasteless. My fiance had fried chicken, greens, and mac. The crust of chicken was good the chicken and everything else tasteless. Then I asked my waitress what was the hostess name she told me then a guy waiter came out asking us about the food. I gave my opinion. He presume to tell me about live band on Thursday's, I told him we wouldn't be back. His remark was "drive by then. " I sensed sensitivity so I said it's not you it was the hostess which is the person that sets the stage for the restuarant experience. I assume he was the owner or manager he said he would be having a conversation with her. Apparently he's months late because the reviews I read are about the same as mine and I'm sure she's the hostess everyone was talking about. The one mistake I made was reading the reviews after I was sitted. However, if Kalitta is not there you may have a good experience. Also I think it's a reserved only restuarant which is not posted until you learn about it in reviews. Choose wisely with your hard earn money.

This was THE WORST experience I’ve ever encountered! Waited two hours to get a menu and for waiter to take my drink order. My drink never came, I arrived at 9p and my food only came out at 11: 45p. Remind you not they close at 12a. My food arrived to the table cold, I was served a glass of water when my food arrived, I had to ask! They stated they didn’t have clean cups. Never was given a straw. So couldn’t drink my water at that. I asked to speak to a manager, no one could tell me who was the manager. Spoke to everyone but the manager. Not once from the 4-5 people I spoke to, no one gave us an apology or showed us any courtesy. If I could rate this worst than a 1 star I would. They also had a roach or bug of some sort on the curtains by where we were sitting.

Unfortunately this place is overly priced and because the gratuity is already factored in, the service is terrible. Falls on the restaurant not having enough staff and the waiter constantly forgetting refills, orders, and billing. Waited for over an hour for food. Only given original drinks, no refills, btw they charge for them. Definitely do not recommend until place steps it up on hospitality.

My husband and I decided to try this place for drinks after we had dinner at a different location. We were greeted by the hostess that had a less than desirable attitude while asking us if we had a reservation (we did not). We were seated 5 minutes later outside. Talk about a disappointment. The “rooftop” was this big (snaps fingers), the table cloths look like something from a high school prom night, banquet chairs that didn’t match anything, sad looking plants and oh wait! I forgot! The door handle to the “rooftop” was broken so they used a cloth napkin to open and close it. And the drinks? Pure sugar. I just know there wasn’t alcohol in them. And for $14 a pop I expected more. I paid cash for the drinks that includes gratuity for my husband and I and we were quickly out the door. We’re at a bar in Missouri City now enjoying double shots that will not be $35.91.

Worse place ever! We’ve been at most places in Houston and by far this is the worse at all
45min to sit / service was as if you had to beg for it / food salty and $150 for two people for brunch? Come on
Pasta and 4 shrimps?
You want an advise don’t go there!
Look forward to have any respond from management, but I will guarantee I won’t.

Just okay. We had to ask the servers to bring us water and ask for appetizers because no one came to our table. Even after that, it took 20 minutes just to bring the water and appetizers and they didn’t even bring utensils or napkins for us to eat with until 10 minutes later. The temperature of the place is also uncomfortably hot and the live band was so loud, my husband and I had to practically yell at eachother to talk. At least the food was good.

Service was rather slow, wait time between ordering and getting our food was at least 30 minutes. Food was ok, chicken wings were a bit underdone as well as the shrimp in the shrimp and grits. Grits weren’t seasoned well, needed salt and pepper added for flavor but the crab ball was really good.
Automatic gratuity added to our party of two which was a stretch considering the lack of timely service.
Overall atmosphere was nice but improvements needed on service and food.

Service sucked. Waiter didn’t know what he was doing. Bartender was sticking his fingers in drinks he was making and changing out fruit inside the drink without washing hands. Food was cold and salty. Took 45 minutes to get my ticket and the ticket was wrong when I got it. Had to walk into the back just to get someone to get. Y ticket. I would never refer no here

In a party of four, me and another person both ordered the ribeye one well done and I ordered the medium rare. Unknowingly unaware of the similarly the other person in my party received a rare steak and asked for it to be cooked longer.what was brought out to me was well done that I received ten minutes later. I asked for my medium rare and what they ended up doing was taking the first steak that was rare they brought it out to me after someone else ate off of it. And served it to me and it was still not medium rare but medium well. Never felt so disgusted out eating in my life, to serve a person food that someone else ate from. I wish I could give zero star.

This place was amazing. I drive by this restaurant a lot of times for the past 4 years but never entered, but now that I have, it will be my go-to place for family outings. The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was amazing. I really loved the place and highly recommend it.

Went for steak and drink night delicious, service and host was excellent price was good for what i had, now decor was horrible get off elevator holes in chairs, sofa worn, drapes had water stains and no papers towels in bathroom was advised there in the process of buying new furniture (please hurry up) will go back.

Honestly the waiter was a nice young man but overall sevice sucks. Waited forever for drinks and food not once did I get my water cup filled or even asked did I need any water, even though the cup was sitting on the table. We had a large party and I would expect management to come by and ask if everything was on par but never did. She was much more concerned doing her books at a nearby table then any customer service. The air conditioner was way too cold and uncomfortable. Lastly, stop adding 20% gratuity on everything, even ordering one drink have to pay.

Pretty much what I expected from a typical "Creole/southern" restaurant. Nothing spectacular about the food. I had the shrimp and grits with a deep fried crab ball. It didnt give me a comfort food feeling. The place is nice, great place to bring your girls for a dinner. Decorated nice, loud music, and the balcony over looks a pond. Make sure you make a reservation as well or you will sit about 20 minutes in waiting area. Restrooms are clean and tidy with great selfie mirrors! I'll go back to give the food a second try because I enjoyed the scenery of the restaurant. They serve drinks, but I ordered a mocktail and it was okay. Waiter forgot my fruit because I specifically asked for fruit and they told me they got me, brought me my drink and it was just juice. I asked where my fruit was and waiter said hold on it's coming, and brought garnishes in a shot glass. Anyways, I'll go back in the future.

With the exception of the hostess, the service was horrible. Reservation made for 7pm, seated at approximately 7;15pm and at 8pm we walked out because no one came to even ask us for our drink order. Several servers walked by and nothing. When we were getting up 45 minutes later (at 8) is when one of the servers we'd already seen a dozen times decided to come over.

The live music was great, however save your money.

I paid to much money for the decor to be the way it was. Torn furniture, linens tht needed ironing, drinks tht weren't good. I asked for a simple sour apple martini and a Moscow mule which neither were good. Overpriced not worth it. Food was ok a little salty. Won't be returning.

Boy was this place a let down… made reservations and didn’t get seated until about 30 minutes later. Place wasn’t even busy. When we finally got seated, it was about an 40 minutes each time before the waitress came around. I couldn’t believe how bad the service was. We finally decided to leave without ordering an entree. The drinks we ordered were bad and extremely overpriced. My girlfriend didn’t even get the right drink.oh also they automatically add a gratuity tip to your bill no matter what! It was just 2 of us. I would never recommend anyone coming here!

The environment was great.service was great.the drinks were great.but my food was cold.and another guest's food was cold.after waiting an hour.my food was cold. The good thing is.even though it was cold.it was still delicious Now imagine it had it been hot!
