The White Horse reviews
16It's alright. Seems very touristy and not a very big dance floor. They played old country in between the band sets, so kind of just a dark, dingy, sleepy bar. $10 cover charge felt like a rip too.
Funtastic! We went for the friday two-step lessons! Had the best time we had had in a long time! The teacher was exceptional, and the dancing was fun. It does get a bit crowded on the dance floor, so if you lead, keep your eyes open. The drinks were tasty and the bands sounded like country gold!
We will come back when we are in Austin again!
So much changes in this world. Not The White Horse! Thriving just the same after all these years, and a global pandemic. Down to earth, unpretentious, rock n' roll, respectful danc'in, cowboys cowgirls, boots, hats, old-fashion fun in real life.
Went in thinking a country dance would be a terrible experience worth doing. It turned out to be a great experience worth doing.
Loved this place.was exactly what i was craving after a year away from bars and live music.cheap texas beers, good music, dancing, a photo booth, outside seating too… classic texas, classic austin, a truly amazing venue.it is very hard to not have a good time here - if you enjoy everything i have described above you should visit!
This place had me smiling the entire time. The late night band played a lot of slow Hank Williams. That coupled with the communal Texas Two Step made this an amazing experience.
I prefer broken spoke for the kitchieness but still a must go for any first time Austin visitor of you're trying to get that "texan" experience. Drinks fairly affordable and big spacious place
If you find yourself in Austin looking for a REAL Texas honky tonk, the the White House is a must. Watching the dancing gives me faith in humanity, if not for a couple minutes. All races, classes, and cultures are dancing together, and the music is absolutely TOP NOTCH. However, it is relatively expensive.
Excellent place, great atmosphere and service. Dance floor, taco truck out back by the patio. You will love the atmosphere as long as you are not a prude
White Horse always has some extraordinary blues band playing and you can enter without a cover. It also coincidentally gathers the most dance-loving people. Has a great space and floor for people to dance!
Every time I am in town I come a take a spin around the dance floor. Two stepping people seem to be the nicest kind.
Plus they had a great stout on tap this time.
I came for the music and ended up dancing. Mixed crowd- age, style, etc. All are welcome and the men are complete gentleman. Bring cash, and be ready to have a good time!
I was trying to get a hold of this business and their phone number not even available for emergencies. Do not go here it is completely unsafe, And you will never be able to reach someone by phone because their phone number is simply a voicemail that they will never reply to.
Just listening to the girl on the voicemail offended me.
It was a bit divy for me, but some people will like that. They play live music (paid a cover at the door) and have an outdoor area. The tables were cleared in front of the stage for dancing. Small parking lot though so be prepared to find something on the street.
The band played slower and old music and nothing up to date. They needed to mix it up to keep the crowd. There was a $10 cover and the music was sub par. I probably would not go back. It’s 2021 and I’ve heard nothing that I know and I’m an avid county listener. It’s your grandpas country, I was disappointed
Been two years since I've been here, it's a little different, with the post- pandemic changes, but it was quite a treat! Great music, safe, comfortable set-up inside, and wonderful staff. So glad this place hung in there!
