Top Hat Chimney Sweeps - Taylor TX

This is my second time using Top Hat Chimney Sweeps. This time was to clean the A/C vents. Juan was the Technician and was very professional. He was neat with his work and he was very knowledgeable about the process. I would recommend Top Hat and Juan.

Laquawn provided excellent service - chimney inspection/cleaning and dryer vent cleaning. He was thorough, professional, kind and explained everything he saw, did and what he recommended based on his inspection. I appreciate his help and will be contacting them again for future service.

I was told after getting my chimney swept that they could not work on my fireplace anymore due to its age. After paying $8,000 for a new fore box, chimney pipe, cap, and install I had a chimney fire six weeks after the work. The response was it was my fault, but they extended the pipe 12 inches and said good luck. Additionally, the work of returning the exterior of my house to the previous condition was poor at best. If I was looking for fireplace work or service, I would look somewhere else.

So i used top hat last year. All good no worries. Used them this year and learned that they had only cleaned the first 14' of chimney. Said they couldnt reach the upper 10'. Now im several years in and top of my pipe is smoking

Top hat says i will need scaffolding so they can access the top. But they also wanted me to get the scaffolding. I dont know what they need, when they need it or for how long.

This is over the course of two weeks. Daily i call and im told that a supervisor will call me back shortly. Never got a call back

Finally i call and ask for a refund. Im told a supervisor said no. On this day i finally speak to a supervisor. I ask for a refund because the job isnt done. She said they did their part and no refund. Paid $290ish and got half a job done.

Finally get a hold of a scaffolding rental company. He says round about 4-5 thousand dollars! Not a joke. I can rent a towable 35' boom lift from home depot for $350.

I have a GC that said he would install a new stove and pipe for the quoted scaffolding price

So finally i get mad and do something irrational. I looked up how to clean a chimney on youtube. Purchased a kit from home depot online for $50.15 minutes later my chimney pipe is clean.

As for top hat, summer was very nice when we spoke. I hate that i had to call daily for two weeks before we spoke. I hate that they only did half a job but charged me full price.

For that reason i give one star. Save your money. Buy a kit and do it yourself.

We have used for last 3 years to clean dryer vent. They have always been honest, reliable and thorough.

I am not sure what is going on at Top Hat Chimney Sweeps in Taylor as my 83 year old mother STILL is unable to use her primary source of heat which was working well before their service call. My mother received a message from Top Hat Chimney Sweeps offering maintenance to get her chimney ready for the upcoming season. For $160, a technician looked inside the stove, then went up to the roof, and stuck a wire brush inside the chimney, moving it up and down a few times. He then came back inside, asked for her vacuum to attempt to remove what he had broken loose from the inside of the chimney, and then left. When the first cold front of the season arrived, she made a fire like she has done in that very same house for over 50 years and the house filled with smoke. She called back and was told they did what they said they were going to do, and if they came back out, it would cost her another $75. Important to note: the stove was completely reset and thoroughly checked a year before when she remodeled. Because my mother is 83 years old, I wanted to find out what service was offered for the initial $160. The lady who answered the phone told me that the reason her house filled with smoke is because my mother does not make a fire correctly. She went into a long explanation about how she should be using paper to warm up the chimney before she puts logs inside. I have lived in a house with a wood burning stove for more than 30 years and have never "heated up the chimney with paper" and in fact, never burn paper in the stove because I was told by the company who installed our wood stove that paper would add to the build up in the chimney. I am leaving a review because it seems that this company is taking advantage of elderly ladies who trust them to help them prepare for cold weather when it seems their only intention is to take their money, send a bunch of photos in a meaningless report. The fact is, the house fills with smoke after their visit.

Spoke with Summer in the office to get my air duct swept and dryer vent cleaned out. She was very professional and took her time to explain everything to me. Being a first time home owner I am clueless about all that. The tech came out and everything went great. I haven't had any issues. I would definately recommend them to anyone who needed that service! Overall very professional, quick, and efficient is my experience.
