7/29/2020 - It seems like TruFit is obsessed with making my experience with them the worst. They called me today to collect a past due, but the problem is that I canceled my membership since May, so I am not sure what they are trying to do. It looks like they are in deep need of $21.00.
I was a member of the Gym located on Ware Rd since they open such location in 2015. Before COVID-19, and after they started promoting $9,99 memberships, it was a problem to find equipment to complete your workout. Impossible to workout during pick hours or 5: 00 pm to 8: 00 pm. Personnel at the front desk, not all of them, most of the time had a bad attitude towards the members. Most of the time they were on their personal phones and typically do not pay much attention to the members.
Just last week I had to cancel my membership due to poor communication and lack of interest on their part.
After the gym was closed for some weeks for COVID-19 I started communicating by email with Tori Sanchez and the agreement was to freeze my account until further notice. This was done on May 16th, but on May 23rd and June 16th I got charged the monthly membership. After several attempts to get in contact with the person in charge, I was told that I need to give them a 30 day notice in order for the freeze to get active. Anyways, they lost a long time customer over $22.00, they spent more money back and fort communicating with corporate in order to make a determination of not giving me a credit.
I did not cancel my membership over the $22, but because of the lack of professionalism and ethics to do business. I rather pay $39.00 somewhere else.

Still waiting (over 2 months) on a refund for a maintenance fee on a membership that I had cancelled even after manager acknowledged club's mistake on charge.

The people are great; the customer service is excellent; it's not crowded compared to other gyms; but why are there many machines out of order? It almost seems like one out of five have signs posted.

Worst gym ever. The customer service is the rudest and the equipment is always broken despite being charged "annual fee" to repair. Don't bother going there.

Great gym to workout at. Usually very clean. Problem is I had to stop bench pressing with a straight bar because of a shoulder injury and I only lift dumbbells now. This really helps, problem is that they only go up to 110 on dumbbells and seemed to have outgrown them. Really hope they order heavier dumbbells.

Recently relocated from Houston to Edinburg, decided to get my entire family with TRU FIT but after last night & the way I was treated I'm ready to cancel & switch. Front desk staff Bryan/Brian needs proper customer service training & working skills. Total jerk! I will make sure upper management understand the lack of professionalism this staff has. Total disappointment.

I Tried to cancel my contract after going to my new duty station, I gave them a copy of my orders to where I was going, they said it would be taken care of only to find out about 6 months later that the address on MY ORDERS WAS NOT DETAILED ENOUGH, even though it said that i'd be living over 600 miles away from their closest gym which is the stipulation in the contract to cancel it. I personally think this company and their bussiness ethics are some of the absolute worse i've ever had to deal with and you shouldn't give them any of your time or money, also, they have the worst customer customer service i've ever dealt with as well, not even letting me know that they weren't going to be able to cancel it until about 4 months later and the fact that whenever I would call them or they would call me i'd tell them my situation and nothing would ever get done to help resolve the situation for around 6 months.
Don't deal with not only this gym but the company as a whole they'll try to take as much money as they can from you and not cancel your membership until they get a decent amount accumulated on your balance, just go to gold's gym they actually follow the rules on their contract and don't make it a hassle if you do ever have to cancel your membership.

Weights never racked correctly. Restrooms are diety most of the time. Great equipment to use.majority of the problem may be the people working out there. NOT the employees

From my experience it’s a good gym, but I believe I’m paying to much money for the gym to be closing at 7pm on the weekends.

I love this gym, only bad thing is that they are closed at 7 during the weekends.at least let the people who works during the day go to other tru fits if we don't pay the 30s memeberhsip

UPDATE:

NEW PRO: This gym has changed quite a bit since my last review. The placement of equipment and addition of studio rooms has improved the overall experience. There is access to the old women's workout area as it is now where all the free weights and compund exercises are. Upstairs is cardio and majority of smith machines.

NEW CON: Only thing I have to say is how they bill for services and the terms of the contract. Don't be fooled about the, "amount of payments = 12" within the actual contract; In which one would believe 12 installments/payments for 12 months. The contract realistically is setup for 12 months after your 1st "free" or discounted month. So based on TruFit's allocation of payments to services provided on a monthly basis, you will have to still pay to the end of your contract month, which would then be an overall of 13 payment installments for a "1 year/12 month/ 12 payment contract. " So your 1st month isn't technically free. If you go in with this understanding then you won't be shocked about having to cancel right after your 1 year is up.

I am about to come up on my 2nd week so far and I really like it. I've trained at the Edinburg Parks and Recreation weight gym, both EHS (one now R. Vela HS) campus gyms, 600 plus (now crunch), both UTPA's faculty gym & WREC, all the Freedom Fitness gyms, and the Golds Gym on ridge; and let me tell you this gym has everythng you need and then some for the price.

PROS:
-It's a big 2 story facility with large dressing rooms with lockers to place your own locks. If you don't have a lock or if your forgot it, you could place your gym bag at the bag storage rack that is next to the cardio machines.
-This gym pretty much has most of the workout machines and equipment* such as; weight lifting, cardio, stationary bike, stretch zone, studio, an isolated trainer room, and a nice dry sauna room.
-Gives free fitness assements, have postings of personal trainer services on dry erase boards, and I also think I heard over the intercom that they have child care-taker services.
-Decent hours of operation: I like the early opening, but the opposite could be true for those who are night owls.
-Never a huge crowd at a time (have yet to check during peak hours from 5-8pm) in which you won't have to jump in or wait for someone in order to use any equipment.
-Men's restroom stalls are enclosed room stalls with their own vents.
-Designated dressing area for those who don't want to change in view of public within the dressing room.

*A lot of the equipment may be old (with the exception of dumbells as they just got them in this week) and has probably been in use from the Cornerstone days, but has a ton of variation that 90% of other gyms won't give you.

CONS:
-No urinals in the men's restroom as there are only stalls. It could be possible that it was a female dressing room in the past.
-Even though there are multple restrooms throughout the complex, they are unisex to which they are just a one stall rooms in which they may be occupied at the time you need to use them (I was used to UTPA WREC's bigger restrooms).
-Because the vast majority of the workout area is floored with carpet, certain areas (especially the trainer room) smell of dank mildew that is caused by the carpet collecting the sweat.
-Even with fans blowing air, the temperature inside at times is warm (I'd say low 80s).

It's no Gold's, but at the price with the equipment you have access to, all in overall this will nicely do. I recommend this gym.

Horrible “sales” customer service. It is sad that people in a customer service driven position don’t know how to speak to customers in a professional manner because they were “busy” talking with other employees who are not currently working. We have 3 mememberships here and wanted to change the primary member and leave 2 memberships. We have attempted to do this on 3 different occasions. The first time we were told the new primary has to be present, the second time we were told both have to be present or a manager can help but he “left” early that day, the third time we were told we both have to come again when a manager is there. How convenient, during mid afternoon on a Saturday a manager isn’t there. The manager is there Monday-Friday from 8-5. How are working people supposed to show up during that time frame? The sales representative was rude. According to him the manager has no business cards. If the sales representative was upset he was working on a Saturday or I was interrupting him from hitting on a female he should do it on his own time not company time. When I informed him that his customer service skills were horrible he didn’t care nor felt any remorse how he made a customer feel. I guarantee you I will be contacting corporate and the BBB but names will be provided. Instead of making a change they lost 3 members for approximately 2 years.

This business will literally do its best to take your money and nothing else. I called billing department to make a payment for a gym membership since they claimed to repeatedly try to charge the card on file and that there was “no money” available when there ALWAYS was and the proceeded to charge late fees. I let that go and I’m good faith called them to take care of that payment and from $21.60 was told I my payment of $30 and change would be processed to take care of it. A couple minutes later I look at my account and was charged over $60! I was NEVER told on the phone that’s what I would be charged. They said it’s an annual enhancement charge which I understand. What I don’t understand is why they had to be sketchy and literally attempt to steal money from their customers and not accurately tell them what was going to be charged. These people will tell you there are no higher ups and basically are not held accountable for their improper actions.

Stay away from this company for your own good!
1. Ive had random charges in my visa.
2. They told me another gym closer to me was gonna open the same month i started.it hasnt in almost 4 months
3. They lied to me when i did the contract, telling me i would be able to downgrade my monthly payment whenever i wanted to, yet when i was going to, first they said it wasnt posible then after making me wait 3 hours+ for the manager, he wanted to charge me more than 100 dlls
4.if i want to cancel the contract i have to pay the remaining months, nobody told me about that

I go to this gym despite working at the other Tru Fit because of two reasons:

1) They offer a variety of free weights and machines that specifically fit my training style.

2) Despite the complaints, I've never found it to be as crowded as the other Tru Fit gyms and that is very important for me because I don't like spending half of my workout time waiting for machines to free up.

Personally I don't take any of the classes they offer here but they do offer exactly what I'm looking for so I can't complain.
My only issue (if anything) is that there is a large area in the weight room that is vacant and I only wish they would fill it with more machines or squat racks.

I have never had a problem at this location, and it's the best place to use free weights in the McAllen area. Look at peak times, pay your bill on time, and you should never have a problem here
