I came here a few years back with a party of 8. The food and drinks were good, but the waiter, who bore a striking resemblance to Charlie Day from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, was extremely rude to me for absolutely no reason. He seemed to single me out among my group. Now if he was as funny as Charlie Day, I might have been amused, but he was just plain derogatory in his comments. Little did he know I was paying for the entire group and shortly after he took our drink order, it rained and we were moved inside to another table with a much better and infinitely more humorous waiter. The new waiter got the tip, and the other guy was literally left out in the cold. I left him a little note on the bill to remind him to not be such an ***.

It's not as good as it was a year ago. The service was no bueno, order wasn't completed and was wrong.

Great atmosphere and always a good meal. Margaritas are great. This is a place to go when you want to enjoy time with friends. Covid has put that on hold but definitely don't judge until we are back to normal.

Revised menu is lower grade than ballpark food at a little league game. There is one entre option- beef tacos. One salad option. And a wide spread of 4 or 5 appetizers (wait for it) - all chip based. There's chips and salsa, chips and queso, chips and guac, and nachos. The drink menu is ok. But the quality of drinks we had was just sad. I really don't have great expectations. I very much enjoy fast food like taco bell and jack in the box. And I understand that it's covid and they're suffering. I truly do feel bad for the establishment. They can't be doing well. But hear more- they weren't taking gift cards that show there's a balance on it is just shady (learned this after they gave the check). They said they don't work at this location right now even though the gift card has that location's address on it. But what has actually put such a sour taste in my mouth is how it was handled with belittlement and by humiliating me. I bit my tongue, tried to react with best respect I could and tipped generously and left and will never come back. Hope if you read this you can consider twice next time you think of going.

When I lived in Austin, Trudy's was the place for good Tex Mex and good times, happy hour and watching sports with friends. Whenever I'm in town, I make a point of visiting.

Trudy's has the best Tex-Mex food near campus. They just reopened so don't have their full menu available, but when you get the chance order their chicken enchiladas

Moldy smell, I guessed it was all because of the carpet; the avacado beef burger went exceptionally well with Texas lone star though.

We attend here for Happy Hour on some Thursdays for $2 Margaritas, and the patio outside has a pet friendly area, and those are always a point of interest for us. The free queso bar runs for awhile during this time, but the food is standard bar level. The margaritas are more than making for par food. Which is reason for 4 stars rather than 5.

I've been to Trudy's just once, when I was living in Houston. I planned for lunch at Trudy's during my day trip to Austin, based on recommendations from friends who had visited earlier.
I'm writing this review in 2020, but I still remember the food and service at this place from when I visited in Dec 2014. The server provided us the best options based on our food preferences and instructed some custom flavouring (to the chef) which made the food taste awesome.
I really like Austin and I was hoping to visit the city another time, but work moved me out of Texas. I hope I get a chance to visit Austin and eat here once again, and get a chance to explore this beautiful city again.

Trudy's Texas Star was very busy when I visited on a week day night for dinner. The staff had a couple of mishaps when putting together my meal and I had to send it back because they were initially unable to accommodate my daily allergy. However, they fixed my dinner quickly and even comped it from the bill. The prices are extremely affordable and everyone seemed to be enjoying their dining experience.

Fried stuffed avocados & al-pastor tacos are good. Green Salsa is excellent, smooth and flavorful.

Had a great meal with large portions. Lots of vegetarian options. The happy hour was $2 pints which was great. They had an endless nacho bar too which was icing on the cake for me! Got to eat outdoors with friends too.

This place never disappoints! Everything I've had is always on point. I highly recommend the al pastor tacos, they are to die for, and they're salsas and aguas frescas are amazing. The service unfortunately is a hit and miss, but highly recommended!

5 star service, 5 star food.
On my week vacation to Texas, this was my favorite. They have house specials each day and an awesome happy hour. Frozen margaritas were delicious.
Got the cholula chicken and it was the best chicken I've ever had. Definitely recommend it. Like sweet and sour chicken but with a hint of spiciness. They're chicken tacos were fantastic.
Tasted like they really used quality ingredients!
Dakoda was my server and he was awesome. He really helps you choose something on the menu and was really fun to talk to. 5 star service.

Trudy's was gracious enough to host a very large group from my Temple. They setup a covered area and had some of their incredible staff serving us. Thank you again.

Trudy's stuffed avocado is the best tex-mex dish of all time. It's a perfect blend of chicken and cheese and avacado all breaded and fried.

The shrimp diablo are also excellent, particularly because of the habanero jelly sauce that comes with it. I like to order the habanero jelly on the side and use it on other entrees, it is so good.

I've been eating there since it opened in the late seventies. Truly an Austin classic! It does get quite crowded but that's because it's so good. My favorite is the mixed grill, fajitas, enchiladas, smoked sausage and guacamole dip.
