Uptown Cheapskate Austin reviews
16Went to sell some clothes. They take forever & they tell you not to leave the store or premises. Told me it would be 2 hours or less & they’d call when they were done. After waiting over 2 hours I went to counter to ask about how much longer & they said they were ready. Gave me $12. This was a Monday afternoon. Not worth it. Also - everything they’re selling is way overpriced!
In from Houston and wanted to check out Austin's resale. Found this place and was very surprised. They had several very nice pieces. Thank you for the nice customer service.
4 of the 7 items I sold were new with tags or shoes never worn and I was offered $30 for the items. Originally the lady stated $34 and change and upon check out $30 was rendered as the store credit offered. This place is a rip off. Especially after browsing the store… things are priced as close to retail NOT the “70% off retail”z
I love this place. I always find great gems but also, they’re probably the best about offering reasonable value for your clothing. I always do in-store credit that way if I have that random urge to shop, it feels like free money at some point lol it stays clean and organized and they are discerning about the stock they bring in.
Uptown has a great selection and great sales. They also buy your clothes right off your back…or in a bin after politely laundering them. Ask for military discount too.
Hmmm. I like the selection a lot, even if it's more expensive than an average thrift store. But my personal experience was less than ideal. I'd given the staff clothes to hold on to until I was checking out. But the pile they brought to the counter were some of mine and some of someone else's, and I had to make sure I was purchasing only the clothes I had put aside.
Once I got home, I realized they had actually forgotten to give me two items I had set aside with them. I called them and asked them to make sure they were on hold for me, and that I would pick them up the next day. This morning when I came back, they had put those two items back on the rack! They even had the placard with my name on it on the counter from the discarded hold. I had to find the two items myself while the staff waffled and didn't help me search, but the coats, which again I had specifically asked to put on hold due to the store's own error, could have been bought by anyone before I came back, which I did an hour after they opened the next day.
For the price, I would expect better customer service and a simple hold to be completed without issue. I'll be back because, again, their selection slaps, but I'll be a lot more careful about trusting the staff to provide good service.
Always find great pieces at a great price. My go to when I'm shopping for a special occasion.
I had a bad experience with the staff. I walked in and overheard the girl say “she probably has old lady items” regardless if she was talking about me or not, i heard her from the entrance. The staff was not welcoming or warm. I would go elsewhere.
Uptown Cheapskate is a fantastic clothing store! Their selection of gently used clothing is both trendy and affordable. The store's layout and organization make it easy to find what you're looking for, and the staff is typically helpful and friendly. Overall, it's a great place to shop for stylish second-hand fashion.
Great store, always friendly staff and I can always find some great clothes. We have also had good luck selling here, just be mindful that you won’t get what you paid, but definitely a fun store to shop at!
Shopped on a quiet Monday afternoon with my sister. Lots a great styles from our favorite brands. The staff in the dressing room and at the register were very sweet and helpful. It was my sister’s birthday so we were offered 20% off for the month of her birthday. The buy line looked full but less chaotic than a weekend. Highly recommend selling on a weekend vs a weekday to avoid a long wait.
Always have a great an experience at Uptown cheapskate. I go in to look for something in specific and come out with way more! But I love it
I haven't treated myself to shopping in forever and Uptown helped me save SO much money. Immediately, all of their XL dresses were a slay. I went back and forth to the dressing room like 4 times because I had so many clothes I wanted to try. I got 19 pieces and spent about $200, which is insane. I'd never able to walk out of Target with 19 pieces spending only $200. The staff were all incredibly kind and patient, and one of the girls for the dressing room helped me out with her opinion on a dress I was unsure about. Love this place, thank you for helping revamp my wardrobe. ️
I had a great experience at this store when selling my clothes! The check-in process on the tablet was a breeze; just your ID, phone number, and the items you're selling. While waiting, I browsed their selection and even used the money I got from selling to buy a few items. It was a win-win! Highly recommend.
Phew. Months later and I’m still very upset about the situation that happened here, so this is why I’m writing this, and hopeful to warn anyone wanting to sell here and encouraging management to make a very important change. I’ve been coming to the store for years and purchasing from them.
I came in with bags full of hundreds of dollars worth of items to sell, almost my entire closet.
I signed all the paperwork, checked that I did NOT want the items to be donated.
Employee did NOT share with me verbally that if I did not pick up within 24 hours that everything would be donated.
It’s possible this was in the print, but it was not not communicated verbally.
I missed the phone call (you are really expected to keep your sound on and be available for 24 hours straight?)
25 hours later, I came in to pick up my stuff and getting the voicemail, to find everything had been donated.
I’m speaking of hundreds of dollars worth of clothes, shoes, purses, jewelry…
When I mentioned this to the employees that it was not communicated to me and was extremely upset, they were Very unconcerned that I had just lost all of my closet.
It really felt like I was robbed
Unfortunately, I will not be returning to the store
I recommend you make it very very very clear to everyone that, despite their lack of consent, the clothes will be donated.
The one positive is that they were donated to hopefully a good cause.
Please make it way more clear that your employees need to communicate this extremely important detail.
I dropped off about 20 pairs of brand new jeans still in the plastic. They said they would call to give me a quote. They called a few days later and said they had too many of that type of jean so I could come pick them up. I told them I was out of town for work so they said they would hold till I got back. When I went to go pick them up the person said all the jeans had been “donated” and there was no way of finding them. I will never go back to this store ever again.
