My husband went blind six years ago and was referred to Dr. John Carter, UTHealth Science, neuro-opthamologist. In trying to determine the cause of the blindness, an MRI revealed a brain tumor. He remains under the care of the UT HEALTH SCIENCE, from pimary care to diabetes, to oncology

After a dismal round of trying to get lab work at my primary care yesterday, I visited my specialist's office building, the MARC. I would rate the facility and the doctors 5-stars; however, the doors to the lab cost them a star. While I waited to get lab work done, I assisted a person with a walker and one in an electric wheelchair to get through the lab's heavy door. They couldn't operate it by themselves. It would be great if there was an automated door there where they could bump a button and get inside. If that isn't possible, maybe an employee could have an unrestricted view of the people approaching the door and get up to assist them.

Below is a copy of my 1-star review of my former primary care doctor's review which also contains all the kudos for the MARC.

If you have compromised health, do not visit this clinic.

I was assured by Erica in Appointments that this facility REQUIRED masks. She added that no one entered the building without a temperature check, a mask, and an exam room to go to; therefore, their waiting room was not being used. I set an appointment for an emerging issue and to get blood tests my specialist required.

I followed procedure. Arrived at building, called to let them know. Some minutes later I received a call instructing me to meet Sonya (sp?) at the front door. Sonya took my temp and entered the waiting area. In a chair on a path to the 'back' sat a man with no mask.

I informed Sonya I wasn't taking another step into the building due to the man's lack of mask. Her snarky reply was that they couldn't make someone do something they didn't want to do. Wrong. They can but they chose not. I then asked her to open the door and let me out.

Shari (sp?), a nurse, called me to assure me that everything was fine, that the man was a one time thing, that he was unable to use a mask because he was on oxygen. I am also often on oxygen, it makes it easier to wear a mask. I disagreed. She then proceeded to reiterate how fine everything was, I let her know I no longer believed what they were telling me. An exception of one is an unacceptable exception. If you make an exception once why would I possibly believe that you had never done it before or that you would never do it again? They chose to make one man's preference the standard. I find this absolutely unacceptable.

Griping done. This morning, I had the polar opposite experience.

After yesterday's thwarted doctor adventure yesterday, I called called my specialist back. His nurse assured me that I could come and test at their facility with absolute confidence.

His office is in the UT Health MARC building on Floyd Curl. It is an extremely large building with a lot of doctors, labs, and a pharmacy. They had medical personnel and security at every door. They took temperatures, required masks, and had hand sanitizer everywhere I looked. My son-in-law had accompanied me as I am unable to go about on my own. They made it very clear that he was unwanted and the building but that he could remain inside as long is there was an empty chair in the waiting room. Said waiting room had been totally cleared of its customary sofas and chairs. Instead there were individual chairs that appeared to be laid out on a 10x10 grid. Otherwise, he had to leave the building. Every single person in the building wore masks. They followed safety protocol. I felt like my poor health was not going to be further endangered by someone else's communicable health issues. Way to go UT Health!

FYI: IF YOU NEED A MEDICATION RENEWAL DO NOT USE MYCHART AND DO NOT HAVE THE PHARMACY CALL. ALWAYS CALL PRIMARY CARE! AND KEEP calling! If it does not get renewed to get filled at a proper time, KEEP CALLING OR GO TO A PATIENT ADVOCATE!
I mostly have only excellent experiences here! The staff and the doctors are all VERY nice in the entire building and Primary Care! The only thing I keep having problems with is getting a timely medication renewal.

Dr. Koneru is a wonderful, caring doctor. The Neurology department is advanced and innovative. They have dedicated Epileptologists and also have a specialist who sees patients with autonomic nervous system dysfunction, that is exceedingly rare to find. Each time I've gone, Dr. Koneru was very thorough and took the time to ask many questions and really listen to my answers.
The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the testing takes so long to schedule.
The office staff at the MARC are very professional and caring individuals, they make the necessary referrals quickly. However, the tests are scheduled through University hospital and they can take a very long time to schedule your tests. A simple EEG could take months to actually receive.
Other than that, this medical group is outstanding!

I have always had positive feelings about the caste I have recieved by these professionals. However when I arrived at my appointment yesterday at 4pm they did not tell me anything about the doctor being 45 minutes to an hour behind. They didn't know anything about being behind and they usually are good about seeing you on time but I would never make another appointment in the afternoon. It was horrible. I left and I asked would I be charged for the visit and the ladies in the front said that they did not know.

We drive a wheelchair van with a full lift, finding parking is impossible unless you have two adults and one is able to go through the drop off lane, the sidewalk had pieces missing and pallets on the cross walk area that was ramped, I had to move a wood pallet to get my childs wheelchair on to the sidewalk.

I had to wait for over 45 minutes for a podiatry appointment— a volunteer delivering bottles of water to all patients in the waiting room was a nice touch.

I love the Marc Center because you have all you Dr's under one roof and you have less of communications break down between primary care and specialist I recommend using the Marc Center for all your medical care.

I’ve been so impressed with the doctors and support staff, that I’ve selected all my specialists now who practice at the MARC. It’s new, clean, beautiful, light filled, organized, safe, has several layers of parking, and even has a place to grab lunch, plus an HEB pharmacy directly across from the lab. It also has outside parking for larger vehicles and RV’s, if needed. It excels overall.

The Doctors and staff here are very good. Due to it being a school more procedures are offered than at most other Doctors office. The geriatrics, numerology and psychological departs are all very good. Lab, Imaging and pharmacy all in one building and all the doctors are on the same computer system and have access to all your information from all departments.

Only once did I have an issue with the facility, I waited all day for a PA to call me back about an issue which they didnt.
Aside from that isolated experience I have nothing but positive things to say about this facility and the care they give their patients.

This is a fabulous facility. My PCP, Dr. Sidju, is wonderful and listens and doesn't hesitate to refer to a specialist when warranted. Most of the referrals and the labs are in the same building saving time and effort. I am grateful for the MARC.

Office stafff, Theresa and Alicia are so rude and prejudice against Spanish speaking patients. Theresa refused to help my parents set up an appointment claiming she didn't understand and hung up. They called back and after a few minutes of pretending she didn't understand Spanish she placed the call on a very long hold and came back on the line speaking Spanish. She pretended to be a different person and when asked, said her name was Teresa not Theresa. Recently my mother spoke to Alicia because my father needed to be seen urgently but Alicia kept saying "I don't understand, what do you need? " "WHAT do you need ma'am!? "
If the doctors there are as rude as the staff then we need to look for a different clinic! Las empleadas de este lugar son groceras y racistas contra su propia gente.

I love this place. The people who work here are very perfessional. My neurologist Dr Francisco Sacarno Gonzales is very attentive to my needs. He is very pacient, professional, understanding, and compassionate with his job. Dr Sacarno Gonzales seems to be a man who cares about people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis or any other auto immune disorder. I WOULD RECOMMEND DR. SACARNO GONZALES TO BE OR ANY OTHER DOCTORS AT THE MARC! THOSE DOCTOR'S ARE THE BEST! !

Got earlobe reconstruction on my streched ears today and Dr. Shah was by far the best doctor I've been to! He was so nice and charismatic! He really made me feel welcome and appreciated! Plus he did an AWESOME job! I will be going back for any other types of plastic surgery I might get!
