Wharton Dual Language Academy reviews
6We are zoned ONLY to Wharton. I tried to get my son registered here but couldn't. Before you try enrolling your child be sure they're FLUENT in Spanish. Its 80% Spanish and 20% English. Any grade after 1st grade requires an assessment basically testing their Spanish. Basically if your kid didn't go here since pre-k your kid will fail. Registrar never answers the phone and never returns phone calls. They'll only accept your child through a magnet program though you're zoned there it being a PUBLIC school and all.
The principal at this has been way too long and thinks that she's God, I have to kick and scream in order to get my daughter tested for middle school. Absolutely discriminating. SHE NEEDS TO BE TRANSFERRED, she got a little to comfortable in that position that is literally affecting innocent children that are automatically being shut down. I was automatically SHUT DOWN. She roll her eyes at me continuously, as I was speaking. Absolutely DISGUSTING BEHAVIOR FOR A PERSON OF HER POSITION.
Pros: The campus/building is really nice. Kids learn Spanish for free.
Cons: Bullying is a huge issue at this school which is often ignored by the faulty. One teacher even said to me “boys will be boys”. Argh! Many kids also leave this school behind in math. I know several parents that have had to hire math tutors after leaving.
Please beware of Middle School at WDLA because as the elementary school is IB, the middle school is not. The Middle school is fairly new and not all the faculty is bilingual and it does not offer the true bilingual experience that the students receive in the elementary years. Both my wife and I are professionals and bilingual and the Middle School Faculty’s Spanish is not up to standard. When our daughter was there we constantly had to be double checking their work and the administration had a hard time coming up with solutions or corrections to their problems The middle school needs a better faculty but most importantly an administration that puts the students best interest first.
I love this school. All three of my kids have attended elementary school here. They span 9 years in age so I have seen the school change and grow over time. The teachers are excellent. The program works. The other families make this a very special place.
