Zydeco Louisiana Diner, Houston TX

I loved the old Louisiana vibez here! Staff is very hospitable and nice.its a buffet line type place and the guy serving gave me a good suggestion of the seafood creole.it was very good.but the sides were mid to me. And the bread pudding i was looking forward to the most was out by the time i got there to eat at 12:/ Its okay tho! Next time I def wanna try the fried chicken or poboy. Prices are very good for seafood. Lots of flavor!

Foods always good, but they went too authentic to the South Louisiana swamps with the ac system that never really keeps up with Houston heat.

Best gumbo in houston hands down. Also a great retro 50s atmosphere to sit and eat. Cafeteria style.

I came here for lunch after coworkers ranted and raved about their food and welcoming atmosphere. After checking out the lunch menu prices, there was no way I was paying $11 for 2 pieces of fried chicken.

But boy was I mistaken… the fried chicken and juicy, full of flavor and moist. But it doesn’t stop there. You get 2 sides (I picked red beans/rice, flavorful green beans) & corn bread (regular or jalapeño). $11 is really a great deal considering all the food they give you. The rice and gravy is also super amazing. I didn’t have to put salt/pepper or Tony’s on anything! I’ll definitely make a return visit at least twice a month, maybe more. The vibe is super old school with tons of office employees that walked from their respective buildings. 5 stars!

The gentleman that runs this place is phenomenal. He goes above and beyond every time me and the guys place an order, which is quite often. Customer service out of this world. If you pass this place and don’t stop to eat you were doing yourself a great disservice.

I thoroughly enjoyed the crawfish, corn, and green beans dish! It has become a regular craving of mine since I started coming here twice a week during work. The ambiance of this place is so calming, and the food is absolutely delightful. I highly recommend giving them a try. Moreover, I'm thrilled to share that they now offer take-out for some of their top-notch dishes in convenient bowl sizes during the evenings.

I met some friends for lunch today. We each drove about 35 minutes because downtown is a central location. My friends chose seafood, and I had baked chicken. We had bread pudding for dessert. Our food was good, and I will be back soon because I promised to take my aunt to lunch.

The fact that Zydeco is able to keep the hours it does should tell you all you need to know about the quality of the food (but I'll write a little more). But to that point, make sure you get there early if you want the best selection because stuff sells out b/c everything is great. Don't worry about the line it moves fast and as a man who hates waiting in line I can attest that my aversion to a feed line is greatly outweighed by Zydeco's ability to simply crush it in the food dept. You don't need to go to Lafayette or Lake Charles to get some killer down home Cajun - if you can make it to Zydeco when they're open. After the food the best thing about Zydeco is as the kids call it "the vibe" - for the brief moments you spend enjoying your food in Zydeco, you a whisked away from the oppressive realities of downtown Houston and supplanted squarely in quaint diner in Breaux Bridge where life moves at the proper pace and everyone has resting happy face. If you want to get THE BEST Cajun in Houston, impress a colleague or out of towner, or just have a darn good weekday lunch - this is the place. I'm pretty sure they'll also fry you a turkey for Thanksgiving so you can avoid trying to relive the glory days of America's Funniest Home Videos.

Absolutely awesome. I can’t get over my craving for their chicken and sausage gumbo. Had to go two days in a row last week.

Wow, this place slaps. Pork chop so tender, bread pudding so moist. I echo all the positive sentiment for the strawberry lemonade.

The food here tastes homemade. Nothing fancy or pretentious about this place just good solid Cajun cooking. I've gone here many times with my co-worker who was raised in Louisiana and says this is most legit Cajun cooking he's had in Texas.

Highly recommended items are the jambalaya (rice is light and fluffy), seafood gumbo (has nice smokey depth to it), shrimp po-boy (sandwich alone is super filling; shrimp is incredibly fresh), and the fried chicken (Wednesday/Thursday). I mostly stick with these items so I can't speak about the other menu items. I hope this place outlasts all the development going on in Houston. Would hate to lose a gem like this.

Zydeco Diner is an amazing spot to grab lunch and try Louisiana kitchen. Also easy reachable from GRB convention center. Every food we tried was so tasteful and very fresh at more than a fair price. The owner Marty is one of a kind, super welcoming and hospitable. Being back in Houston absolutely means visiting Zeydeco for me. Thanks for the amazing experience!

I was in town for 4 days, and ended up eating here 4 times! Might have to make a trip to Houston again in the near future to eat here again!

No lines. The food was good. I chose the stuffed pork chops and it was cooked perfectly. I really liked the chicken rice. I chose 4 stars because there wasn’t many sides that I liked to eat in general.

The stare I just gave these mashed potatoes after the first bite was a mixture of awe, astonishment, curiosity, and love.

Nothing fancy.doesn't need to be the food is AMAZING! Had fried catfish, dirty rice, beans, shrimp po boy, It's doesn't get any better.
