I had an iPhone 7 that was broken (cracked screen and could not get service). I went in to get a new phone and they told me that to get the iPhone 8 Plus, all I had to do was pay off my iPhone 7 ($375) plus pay taxes on the new iPhone * plus (~$87) and that it would be an additional $2/month than what I currently pay. I said okay sounds good. They said I can have a $170 trade in credit for my broken iPhone 7 and I asked if they could apply it towards my bill, and they said no it's a store credit only. So I got some accessories from that store that I didn't really want.

Anyways, 8 days later, I get my notification that my bill is due soon and it is $41 more than usual! I look at the bill and they charged me a $30 phone upgrade fee? No one had mentioned anything about, but okay fine $30 one time upgrade fee.and the additional $11 was for insurance that I did not have previously (I did consent to this). So i figure that next bill, it should only be $11 (insurance) + $2 (upgrade) = $13 more than usual - RIGHT? - WRONG! The Verizon billing app says that my next phone bill will be about $36 more than usual.umm? How?

So I go into Verizon to speak with someone, because I did not change my plan and $36 extra per month is triple what I was expecting. After lots of research, they finally figured out that it's actually $25 extra per month, just for the phone, and an additional $11 for insurance. So I said okay.well I actually don't need the insurance.and I don't really want to pay $25 extra for a slightly bigger phone with less memory than my old one.

So he did a little more research to see how they "overlooked this" and it turns out, it's because I was getting a promotional discount from an iPhone 6 I previously traded in for the iPhone 7. I was given a $450 trade in for the 6 that would be spread out into my bill over 2 years, giving me about $19/month discount. Apparently this does not apply to the Verizon bill, it applies to the phone (my iPhone 7). So when I gave them my phone back, I lost the promo. In other words, I only got a $225 credit for a perfect condition iPhone 6 that was well worth $500 at the time on places like ebay. Anyways, I asked if they still had my phone, and they said no. If i would have known this before I got the 8 Plus, I would have went back to Apple and given them that phone plus $320 for a new one there. But I can't do that now, so here I am looking at plans elsewhere so I'm not surprise paying $36 more than what someone quotes me.

Went in today to look at a couple Gizmo Gadget watches for the kids this Christmas. I read great reviews about this specific Verizon location and that's why I went there. I've had bad experiences at other Verizon locations in the past.
I set up an appointment with Derrick. He was absolutely AWESOME! I was anticipating a big cost for what we were asking for. Derrick gave us zero sales pressure. He made us feel very welcome and simply answered all our questions. I respond very well to this kind of sale and usually spend more than I went in wanting because I feel better informed and in control. He informed us of all the promotion options available and let us choose the ones that best fit our needs. He also reviewed my current date package. He's going to save me a lot of money in the months to come on my monthly bill! The package is slightly bigger than what I currently have but I'll save money by not incurring loads of days overages. Heck, he even informed us of an unrelated but awesome movie theater package that will save our family of four a bunch of money at the movies.
When all was said and done, we came out of the store, not only paying much less than we thought, but we've got the coverage and protection that makes me happy to stay with Verizon vs the other cellular providers.
It's going to be a great Christmas and we have Derrick to thank for it. This man deserves a promotion! I will recommend others to go see him at this location. I only wish Verizon would use this store and Derrick's customer service as training for their locations. Coming from someone who hates to go into these type of places, today was a great experience. Thank you Derrick!
