Fuji Sukiyaki, San Mateo CA

Had chicken noodles that tasted like cup of noodles. Only thing that the place has going for them is the private room seating area.

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon to no wait. Surprised to see how small the place is inside (although they do have a back area for large parties). Service was lackluster and food okay.

The photos on Yelp made the sushi look so appetizing, but the rolls were nothing to rave about. They were small and not well made.

I would stick to the nigiri and sashimi here as it seems to be their specialty. The oyster bomb and sunrise nigiri were pretty good.

Overall it was a decent place for some variety of nigiri, but nothing too special.

Amazing Japanese food, the price is reasonable. That's why even at 3: 00 PM, we came with 8 people, still quite a few of the customers sitting around the restaurant. The service is pretty good, quick and easy with smiling face.
I definitely will come again!

Bay Area's best Sushi. I have traveled throughout the States and hands down this place is one of the best in the country. The staff are so friendly and Steve the owner and the chef is a star.

I order Nigri. Food is so so. Not very fresh. Sushi chef is very cold as i sit in the bar. Service is poor.

Freshest fish every time. This is the only sushi place I’ll eat at ranging from San Jose to south San Francisco. Consistent quality, family run business and chill environment. Always great!

Sushi Steve is the best! He always has fresh high grade sushi along with things you dont find ordinatilly

This my favorite sushi place near downtown san mateo. The food is amazing, the service is great and the chef makes great personalized suggestions.

Order the vegetable sukiyaki and saba nigiri. Enjoyed it all. Sukiyaki had a lot of flavor as did the saba. Recommend to try.

Good sushi, very big portion, got some exotic and premium sushi choices. I had their toro, humongous pieces. Satisfying.

We were asking the restaurant staff what to order or her recommendation in order to help us decide faster. But instead, she showed us the menu and ask us to look and choose on our own. And say she will come back.

Excellent food, priced at about the mid-level for sushi restaurants, service seems to be slipping as I’ve needed to repeatedly ask for water. Not giving up on them yet as it’s good food, location and not being crowded enough to have to wait for a table keeps me coming back.

Good sushi, service could be a little better. We waited a pretty long time till we got asked about drinks.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise this one was. Quick service, great quality, very friendly and personable Sushi chef in charge. The staff were incredibly courteous and attentive. Overall, just an Amazing experience considering it's not the fanciest place but it sure packs a punch for sure. The food was equally wonderful and savory. Definitely a must see if you're ever in San Mateo and craving sushi. Well done!

Their rolls are great, low on the rice portion so u can eat more of the good stuff. Value for money in the bay area

Rolls are subpar in my opinion but my vegetarian friend loves their veggie options so I’ve been a few times. Average spot but service is nice. Parking is street and metered. Cost, somewhat fair.

Worst sushi I’ve ever had In my life which made me very sick. Should have known when I walked into a completely empty restaurant, Never going back again.

Probably best value for sushi is downtown San Mateo. Sushi chefs are competent but not exceptional (sorry guys!). However, what they lack in precision they more than make up for in friendliness. Their rolls are the best way to go; good value and generous portions. Staff is always polite and attentive. I've never had a bad meal. Lastly, the "private" shoji rooms are excellent for special meals.or a little romance (oh my!).

Our go-to sushi restaurant. This place is truly a hidden gem. Great selection and fantastic sukiyaki, which is hard to find around here.
