27This is only a rating for the Hollywood location, it was not good. Service, except for the cashier, was not like the Philz in Daly City. I wanted to watch the process of the slow pourover but no conversation, I was "pushed aside" to help another customer. The guy said no you have to sit over there and wait. On top of that, the coffee was burned. No filter rinse, no bloom, just poured the hot water and made the cup hastily. Could not enjoy the flavor. Again, not what I inexperienced in Daly City. So hopefully this will let the Hollywood location know they need to get on board with other Philz' concept.
Some of the best coffee in LA. Everything is made to order. They truly want to please. When they ask you if your drink tastes OK, they really want to know. I had a mocha that tasted different from times past. When I gave them feedback they made a new one that took my feedback and was better.
I just wanted a cup of good, strong bold black coffee and also got an enjoyable conversation about dark roasts. The Ether (type) coffee was excellent. The clean and open outdoor seating area was good place to relax and rest for a bit.

This place felt like an oasis while I was looking for a place to sit down for a while charging my laptop. Their coffee tastes amazing, too. I received a cup of coffee with an unknown herb leaf floating on the coffee foam, which definitely added to the flavor. Tip: There are more outlets under table tops.
Moving to LA from San Francisco my heart was warmed when I saw Philz Coffee move in. They've been my favorite drip coffee stop for years and years.

Expensive, hand made coffee in small batches in a bright, if somewhat sterile setting on the ground floor of the CNN building. Good WiFi and long tables lend themselves to a short workday on the laptop. If only the pumped in music would be better. Closes at sundown.
