They also have a horrible cheap Turnstyle near the door that just about makes me fall when I'm trying to get out the door with a bag. I hope another grocery store opens in one of the many empty stores in the area. I can't wait to have somewhere else close by

Huge store! Staff helpful but I did get incorrect info regarding their Western Union service.wasted trip. Fresh foods.good variety and lots of parking. This Ralphs is too pricey for this neighborhood. I believe. Because of the proxinity to several hospitals. 3! They target the smaller group of big spenders. Not fair to locals LIVING there.

Edit: I changed my rating from 5 stars because they've recently ghettoized the store by putting in turnstiles that make it difficult to enter/exit. These genius managers/corporate think they're saving a ton in theft, but they're mostly just losing customers to Gelson's or the much nicer Ralphs in West Hollywood. This was my favorite grocery store and the experience is now incredibly unpleasant. Hope they actually read these reviews, because I see I'm not the only one who feels this way.

This place is ridiculous, almost every product is locked up, and when you finally get somebody to open the cabinet for you, they tell you to go to the front and pay for it. The entrance is the worse part, it is so hard to get in and out because they have a barricade, they should stop assuming that all their customers want to steal something.

EDIT: gates, guards and bag searches have been added. Apparently we're all criminals and cattle. I'm feeling like I'll pay a bit more at Gelsons from now on to be treated like a human being. END EDIT Decent selection and variety of groceries. Staff is friendly enough, and self-service checkout is great. Plenty of parking.

So I've finally had it with this location. I live within walking distance of this store and it has always been my go-to grocery store. I've lived in the area and shopped at this location for over two and a half years. I'm exasperated and so angry that this place now is so substandard.

First off, the hourly staff is great. The cashiers are always kind and as helpful as they can be even though it seems like they're consistently short staffed. And the guy who stocks the produce is so friendly! It seems to me the problem is with how this location is managed.

Recently, they've been making it really difficult to get in and out quickly. Regular DAILY USE items are behind security glass and you need to wait 15 minutes for someone to come unlock the door just so you can get Claritin or lotion. It's beyond ridiculous.

Restocking doesn't happen in a timely manner. For example the other day I walk into the store to pick up 2 things that I needed to prepare dinner that night. I also wanted to pick up some peanut butter since I was out. My brand of peanut butter is out of stock on the shelf. The price tag is there, but its space is empty. Since I walk by the store on my way home, I come back the next day to pick up the peanut butter.empty. Come back AGAIN FOR THE THIRD DAY IN A ROW and.you guessed it - empty! And that's not a one-off occurrence. It's been about 2 weeks since I saw a can opener on the shelf and they are always out of the kind of quest bars I buy.

I love their store hours because I work nights every fall; I am only active in the evening and sometimes need to go to the grocery store at 1am. That's the reason I was a loyal customer, but that has to change because the shopping experience has evolved into a beast that's not worth the hassle.

They also have started to enforce the no backpack policy that apparently has always been a policy. Some guy that I have never seen before, even though I am a regular, tried to take my backpack. I said no you can't take my backpack and he said I could let him take it, put it in a locker, or leave. SO I LEFT. AND I'M NOT COMING BACK UNLESS IT'S URGENT. I have work equipment and documents in my backpack that cannot be seen by people outside of my company. I cannot risk it being handled by other people. And I will not leave it in a locker unless I'm sure that I have the *ONLY* key. If it's not a locker that I can put my own lock on, it's not secure. So if I have to walk all the way to my apartment and back to drop off my backpack after work that sucks up 30 minutes for no reason. BECAUSE I'M NOT A THIEF. I will walk a little farther from now on to Food 4 Less or get off a stop early and go to the Trader Joe's by Hollywood/Vine and hoof it back. It's just so stupid.

Other things that have happened at this location that have led me to this decision are
1) Being harrassed by a man in the clearance section trying to initiate physical contact
2) Charging different prices than what is listed when it comes time for checkout
3) Excessively long lines at checkout (only 2 lanes open)
4) Never getting assistance in a timely manner. I waited 20 minutes once for someone to help me get something off the top shelf and NO ONE EVER HELPED ME. I had to flip a shopping hand-basket over and stand on it even though it was very unstable. I just don't have the time for their disorganization.

Anyway, congratulations on losing a regular customer. And don't be surprised if I'm not the only one you lose.

They lock up booze and any item worth more than ten bucks because of the hood rats stealing it incessantly.

Unfortunately, I live across the street from this place so I'm there every day, sometimes multiple times a day. It's horrible. (and btw, I've lived here for three years - it's not been 'recently remodeled' as one reviewer said.

Let's start with the layout. The main entrance funnels everyone right into a choke point about 4 feet wide. Imagine people coming both directions and man of them with carts. You frequently get stopped at the door just waiting for people to waddle through - and they go slowly because the store's management thinks it's a good idea to put as many sale displays at this choke point as possible, so people stop to browse. It's ridiculous and it's not safe.

Then, at night (and this is a Ralph's policy across its stores) they physically block of one of the exits despite this being against state, city and federal law. It's also a violation of OSHA regulations. The doors don't actually lock so they have to physically drag shopping carts in front of them. Management will tell you they do it at low traffic times, like after midnight but I've seen the doors blocked as early as 9 p.m, when the store is absolutely packed. Imagine if everyone has to evacuate, like in say, I don't know, an earthquake. Everyone inside is screwed.

Then there are the employees. They are so rude. Just unbelievably rude. Yesterday a woman at the hot food bar (which is disgusting looking all times of the day) turned to a nearby employee and asked if an item was chicken or not. The woman screamed at her in the middle of the store and said "it's chicken, it's on the sign! " - it was not on the sign. The sign didn't say what kind of meat it was and in the woman's defense, it looked nothing like chicken. I can't say what it actually looked like, because it would be rude.

Then there are the self-checkouts. For some reason, they've boxed them off with a half-wall and create one entrance that's not even big enough to comply with the ADA. They allow carts inside the self-checkout corral, despite that there's no room for them. If you bring a cart in, you have to block the floor so no one can get beyond you, or you have to block another register. They also don't limit the number of items in the self-checkouts, so people will fill their carts and then block a register for the next 15 minutes while they try to checkout. The employees who monitor the self checkouts are almost never inside the corral. They're usually off talking. The best will go away to talk to their friends, the worst actually stand in the entrance and block it. I'm not even joking. I can't tell you the number of times I've had to ask employees to move so I can get inside the corral to check out, and each time, they look at me like I've just kicked a dog.

And then! Once you've checked out, you're funneled out another tiny exit right into - you guessed it - the choke point that people have to use to enter the whole store, creating a traffic jam of monumental proportions.

And all of this is to say nothing of the fact that they don't know how to manage inventory. I tend to buy the same snacks that apparently everyone does, like say, watermelon or a certain kind of iced tea - because the stock is constantly depleted. The watermelon is gone by the end of the day everyday, so have managers adjusted and made more, or restocked in the afternoon? Of course not. That would require independent thinking and I've yet to come across an employee at this store capable of that.

Used to be a nice store. They seem unable to handle security and have recently started placing everyday items in locked cases.without staffing properly for the additional hassle. Should t have to wait 20 minutes for contact-lens fluid.

Update: on 11/19 I needed some Benadryl. I timed the response of the new push-for-assistance process. Upon requesting help to get the medication, the audible requests were canceled before help arrived and I had to push the alert a second time.

After 8 minutes and 31 seconds someone arrived to help

I live within walking distance of this location and feel that Ralph's has found an ingenious way to lose customers.

The place is amazing, the variety of products is great, BUT what’s the problem with using WC? !? ! Why have you made so inconvenient? Make people’s lives easier, common! Also, you have more and more stuff locked up in cabinets. Not cool

My primary grocery store because it's walking distance *and* has tons of free parking in their underground garage.

Clean, mostly friendly staff, decent variety.

Checkouts usually efficient but I tend to just go through self checkout.

Recently reorganized and locked a lot of frequently stolen items in cabinets. I understand the reasoning, but not all of the cabinets have call buttons on them, and there have been times I've decided to just skip the item rather than try to track an employee down.
