Suruki Supermarket reviews
32Everyone was super nice. If you are ordering a sushi platter would recommend placing the order online early in the morning for pick up later in the day
Excellent fish counter with cut-to-order sashimi. Recommend you order a day ahead via the website.
Small Japanese local supermarket that does sashimi and fresh fish. You order at the counter for sashimi and they make a whole platter for you. They had yellowtail, tuna, toro, salmon and fresh scallops as well.
Excellent to go sushi at a great price point. Store was clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Great place to pick up lunch and some groceries!
Love this market! So lucky I am only 2 blocks away. Though the store is small, I can get all what I need from hot meal, frozen or fresh japanese ingredients, meat, fish, sushi and vegetable. Did I say I love this market? ! Lol. I love this market!
Arrived at 330pm, I did not there was a sale after 4pm for prepackaged hot food as I stood in line. Just wanted to get general groceries so walk passed the line and in. Selection of food overwhelm my excitement, means I end up buying more, lol. Though the store is busy everytime I go, it maintain cleanliness.
Excellent quality and selection at a family-owned and operated Japanese market. Full service seafood counter in the back, and house made prepared foods both hot and cold up front. Most popular feature is probably the discounted prepared foods sale that takes place every evening one hour before closing when marked items are fifty percent off!
During SIP, entrance and exit is directional and safety notices are clearly and prominently placed. Glad to support a local business with such deep ties to the community!
This place has been my favorite place to shop in downtown San mateo. I can get my favorite Japanese beers/drinks and the food/snacks are great. The workers are very friendly
The best convenience market in Downtown San Mateo! They sell everything from Bentos (premade lunch boxes), rice balls, sashimi, sushi, as well as dry goods and fresh produce! Secret tip is going to the fish counter, and ask for sashimi quality fish, in whatever quantity you want! Some of the freshest fish you'll ever get!
A great Asian market with an emphasis on Japanese pantry staples and specialty produce. There is a wonderful fish counter in the back and they crank out grab-and-go bentos and fresh sushi all day.
Affordable, high quality Japanese food. Great for lunch, or come at 6PM for the half-off pre-prepared meals. Sushi is always super fresh and delicious. I’m a huge fan of their futomaki and nishime (stewed veggies).
They have oyster sauce and other random Asian sauces not just Japanese. Like Vietnamese rice wraps. I go for the sashimi and fresh seafood
Relatively small but has everything you need to make sushi (fresh tuna, salmon, tamari gold rice etc.). Has prepare food as well if you are in a hurry and need a quick bite!
Great choice of Japanese food. There are prepared lunches, ice cream, snacks, fish and meet and other things (even household items). A bit expensive though.
Really nice neighborhood market for getting Japanese stuff. Found some "rare" items like okonomiyaki flour and tempura flakes.
They've also got hot and ready meals of all kinds. Apparently, it's half off close to closing. Prices are reasonable, too
They have a great sale after 6. Though many people come and you might be squished.
Good variety of Japanese things. A bit expensive though.
If you come here towards the end of the day, I think around 5: 30 or something, all their cooked foods and Susi are had price. You can get a lot to eat for a great price. The sushi and sashimi here is great. Fresh fish is sold on the back of the store. There are many items here for your Japanese cooking. Prices may be a little higher than normal though.
Pretty cool place. At 6pm a lot of prepared foods are marked 1/2 price. There is literally a group of people waiting for it and blocking customers from shopping starting at around 5: 30. Yesterday I busted my way through the crowd and someone kept getting in my way when I noticed he was trying to hide items he wanted to buy at half price. I find the half-price crew incredibly annoying. I can't get there before 5: 30 to avoid them if I want to shop on a weekday. Great way for Suruki to get rid of fresh food for the day, but not great for me. Still love it and go there on weekends with no problems.
Great selection of unique products at reasonable prices. What really sets Suruki apart though is the friendly and helpful staff.
You need to make sure you look at the expiration dates of refrigerated and non-refrigerated prepackaged food carefully. Items which are on sale are often found to already have been expired or with very short expiration dates. The quality of fish is good. The quality of beef and pork is good.
