Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum reviews
44A super cute free museum. While the two rotation galleries were both being refreshed when I visited, I still appreciated the permanent collection’s interesting variety of craft and decorative art. There was a good variety of pieces (including some concept art, craftwork that required incredible technical execution, and some that subverted the usual expectations of the genre). While the museum is small overall, every piece is deserving of attention and there were a lot of pieces I loved that were not by artists I had previously known. Definitely check this place out!
Kinda funky but fun. Not sure exactly what the curator was thinking but it's a neat introspective spot in a good space. Waiting for the remodel to finish.
Terrific treasures. Fabric made of wood and of glass; wood made of clay; steel made of earthenware.
The hidden Smithsonian. Always interesting, rotating exhibits, like this one that is a total room installation.
Visited for the Burning Exhibit. This is a small museum but still kept us busy for nearly two hours.
Many of the exhibits are fresh and rotated often- easily a museum to revisit. Small-ish museum, ergo less overwhelming than other Smithsonians and is a great museum to pare with the larger museums - can be seen in an hour/two at a quick clip.
One of the premium galleries in Washington DC. With the ability to exhibit large, compelling, contemporary work.
Always a fun museum to go to! The "No Spectators, the Art of Burning Man" exhibit was beautifully presented. This museam is smaller compared to others in DC, but always has interesting exhibits that are well layed out. Bring the whole family since there's tons to look at.
Fantastic experience! Docent led tours and interactive exhibitions brought me back again the next day.
Saw the Burning Man exhibit. They really outside themselves with it. I learned so much and felt a part of the event. The poor door guard had trouble "herding the cats" and was stressed out.
Always incredible. Check out the Ghost Clock if the permanent collection is on display.otherwise the temporary exhibits have been incredible on their own (wonder was amazing 2 years ago and the art from burning man was immersive.)
I saw the Burning Man exhibit. The experience must be much different out in the playa but I got a lot from it. It is participatory and in some ways contemplative. Very worth seeing!
Fantastic, artistic, and fact-rich exhibit about Burning Man is being shown when this is published. If you like somewhat outsider art, visit. If you are curious about Burning Man, visit. If you like an interactive museum exhibit, visit. It's a lovely collection, so do visit.
This museum was one of my favourite on my DC trip. It was small and half closed but the parts I saw were amazing
Very lucky to visit this museum when the burning man exhibition happened in August 2018. Especially it is free admission. Feel like walking into a quite intimate spaces, but the museum has quite large exhibition to display.
Huge fan of art & this place ALWAYS gives me something 2 be excited over! Right across from the white house & plenty of art 2 enjoy!
All eyes on the Burning Man Project, a temporary exhibition that has a life and identity of its own. It is very hip and popular. I was Lucky to see it
Went specifically see the Burning Man exhibit. IT WAS AMAZING. Treat yourself and GO! Pictures don't do it justice, you have to see it to experience it all.
A Smithsonian gem. It is free. Always has interesting exhibits. Burning Man exhibit there now is outstanding.
