I love this cozy spot in the neighborhood and have been really impressed with their pandemic plans. They always carry a great collection of new, diverse, and unique books and continue to make them super accessible. Their little cafe is also great for breakfast or a midday snack. I really appreciate how seriously they're taking masks and disinfecting while also making it easy for you to browse. They also keep their front patio open with well spaced tables and chairs.
Surprisingly good breakfast sandwiches in a cozy coffee shop bookstore environment. Food can be of varying quality. Not many open seats during busy hours.
Very solid coffee and atmosphere was a perfect blend of social and focused for those who work well in public. Didn't have time to browse all the books so I guess I have to go back! ¹¹
Everyone here was super friendly and offered to shuffle seats to accommodate my boyfriend and I. We had the tofu bahn mi, vegan biscuits and gravy and grain bowl. Biscuits and gravy were seriously the best I've ever had - turmeric gravy was fire.
I’m always a fan of a coffee shop that also sells book. Plus, the atmosphere here is especially cozy and the food is solid.
Cute local coffee shop and bookstore. This place is always busy and the staff are always helpful. Definitely worth a try since they have a good menu as well.
Great space to meet friends and have community events. The coffee is good but a little light for my taste. I would recommend the banana bread, it tastes fresh and delicious.
Based on the idea of bringing a community together with books to read and select tables with no tech.usage
Nice, quiet community bookstore and cafe.small, friendly, nice cafe.community room for book talks.parking is pretty hard.
A good place to do remote work in DC. I learned recently that they are a nonprofit organization with very progressive values, so worth checking out and maybe buying a book or two. It can get busy on the weekends though, and they have tables reserved specifically for non-screen usage at the request of the community, so they do seem to listen to their community members!
One of the best indie bookstores in DC, with good food and space to work (including a fee "screen free zones" to meet other people). Somewhat expensive, and the vibe is decidedly less grunge than what I'm used to in Seattle. Still amazing, check out their sale on Verso and left theory books to the left of the counter.
Great coffee, fantastic book selection and friendly community atmosphere. Walked all the way across town just to hang out here and I'd do it again.
Reasonable. Low salt. Pay it forward by donate a cost of another soup or more. Books, community meeting rooms.
A decent coffee shop and place to work. However, there are occasionally loud, rambling homeless people.
Best coffee I've had since I landed in the US.
Music playing makes for a nice steady morning.
Excellent quiet wholesome meals. Your purchase or additional dollars help Potter's House DC provide soup etc to those in need. Pay it forward is a time-honored decades of tradition there. Meeting rooms, wifi, community active sharing, books for adult and young, etc. Bring your laptop and your heart. If you haven't been there since it's beautiful interior and low-salt food make-over, please do.
Love this place! I participated in a four day workshop here, and the staff was wonderful and patient throughout the entire thing. Good food, good drinks, good music, good vibes; my only issue is that I don't live close enough to visit every day!
Cool coffeeshop with good cafe food. They often have events coming up like speakers and book signings. They have a nice arrangement of books but very much books "for the cause. " If you're looking for fictional books of whimsy, this isn't the best spot.
If you're interested in getting involved in a good cause in your community, this is a great place to meet people to do that.
Reminiscent of the coffee shop in Friends, but so much cooler. Great staff, great apparel, great clothes, great literature.
