The green swamp is a great place for hunting and hiking. The mosquitos do get bad so I would recommend a thermacell or insect repellent. There are is always wildlife present as long as your quiet and some idiot isn’t out there shooting their gun for target practice.

One of my favorite places to head camping. Plenty of trail, the Florida Trail paths through. Just generally avoid Duane and you'll have a good time.

My husband, I and some friends made this our pit stop after riding our motorcycles so we can rest and grab a drink also take a boat ride in the swamp! The captain was very informative as well as making us see alligators! My husband freaked out a couple of times with the alligators thinking they were gonna attack us and made us laugh with his dramatic self lol. Overall, it was great and would recommend!

The General James Van Fleet trail (a paved 30-mile rails-to-trails trail) goes right through the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve. Well shaded in most sections, this trail is a great place to walk, bicycle, or enjoy any other non-motorized mode of transportation while enjoying the outdoors. From it you can see all kinds of wildlife, including alligators (primarily at the "3 Bridges" section), land tortoises, deer and racoons. I've even had a rare sighting of a fox squirrel.a giant squirrel the size of a large fox! There are also snakes of all kinds that like to come out and warm on the pavement at the end of the day.just give them their space and they won't bother you. This trail is a great way to experience the wilderness and it's generally uncrowded.a welcomed change from the theme parks!

Unique ecosystem with miles of Backcountry hiking opportunities. Waterproof boots are almost always a necessity. Choose a bug repellent with plenty of deet.

Great place to relax, connect with nature and see some wildlife. Just make sure to bring some bug repellent and a walking stick of some kind is a good idea as well as appropriate footwear. Other than that just stay off your phone and listen to the world around you.

I wasn't able to travel the distance I wanted but if you're looking for a drive in the woods to pacify your time, I highly recommend this option!

Green Swamp is one of my favorite places. Green Swamp East Tract has no cell service with any Carrier so plan on enjoying with no interruptions.

Went for birding, saw some great birds and painted buntings (female in pictures attached, Male was too quick)! I walked all trails available, had the best luck crossing the bridge on the way to the sinkhole. The boardwalk is nice, but you wont see many birds along there - it is too dense.

Other good spot is just to the right of the tortoise and opossum, by the feeders.

Not much luck at the bird blind.

Wonderful preserve for backpacking! Trails are marked well for the most part but make sure you have a good map and maybe a good GPS that doesn't rely on cell phone data. We encountered a lot of wildlife and can't wait to plan our next visit

Very primitive and beautiful wild Florida. Has water for horses and a porta toilet for campers. Picnic shelters too. Miles of trails on solid roads or grassy trails thru the woods.

Nice place that needs more directional signage into the preserve from the highway or populated areas.
Sadly in certain places people have used the preserve as a trash can or their own personal dumping ground.

Great campground. Far enough from roads that it is nice and quiet day or night. They empty the trash cans frequently and the restrooms are in acceptable condition and clean. The trails are nice and seem to be trimmed clear. Keep an eye out for webs though, especially if you are tall. Great place to see the stars!

Just lovely rural area. We cycled the path. Saw wildlife like tortoise, Hawks, water turtles, squirrels, cows, egrets and a huge nest, think it might have been a hive. No alligators though.: (We enjoyed the Van Fleet trail between Green Pond road and South Bay. Excellent ride! Straight and flat but scenic. Trail is 29 miles and we did the middle, so we'll be back to do both ends.:)

Great place for camping and it's free with online reservation. Each site has table, fire ring, and non potable water. Camp hosts we're great. Lots of hiking, bike riding, and trotting trails.
