Definitely get the bike cars! It takes forever when you walk. We got there at 1: 30pm and we only finished the Asian side. We didn't get to the Africa side before we were super tired and out of time. We were also, actually reading the signs at each exhibit. Lots to see just get there early! It opens at 10 but the drink spots open at 11 and some at 1130. Also bring cash for drink machines. The drink machines haven't been updated to read credit cards yet. They have water bottle stations but I physically only seen one. Water was hot coming out, plus it was hard to press a scalding hot button. They have drink machines. My husband tried putting a dollar in one and it wouldn't even take the dollar. Drinks from the machines cost $3-$3.50. The food stand's drinks started out 4.50-6.50. You will need extra cash for monorail and train if you wanted to do that but they just go over the exhibits. The monorail was $5/person. We also brought an umbrella with us due to the heat.

Overall, this zoo is nice. It has a wide selection of animals. The traffic, parking, and moving around were insance because we went on Smithsonian free museum day (with paid tickets, lol). Especially crazy because they rent these multi-person bike trolly things to get around and many of those people were very rude. The zoo is rather spread out for what they have. They really need to do more with the walk ways and extra space they have. Maybe signage or at least some sculptures. But we enjoyed our quick tour of this zoo.
