Hideaways Beach reviews
33Intense hike down. Even after a slight amount of rain, the path was extremely muddy and steep. I do not suggest bringing bags or anything unless you're positive that the path is dry. There are also a lot of rocks in the water, so I recommend water shoes (See attached photo).
Amazing beach with some awesome snorkeling opportunities. Well worth a little hike. Make sure to bring appropriate foot wear
Small parking serves its limiting role - the beach is really small, and cannot accommodate too many people. The climb down is fun, but the beach itself is so-so. It you are in the area, that's fine, but don't respect too much
Despite the difficult steps/cable ropes to access the beach (and limited parking), it's absolutely a GEM worth the effort!
I hike trails NC fairly often, but this was too steep for me. I was too afraid to even try it. It had just rained and it was really slippery. Lots of surfers we're going down one handed with their boards, barefoot. But I guess I'm a weenie. I walked a little farther to the hotel at the end (Princeville?) and they had a paved stairway beach access route, to the left of their main entrance marked by a "beach access" sign. I just walked in and no one said anything to me or asked if I was a guest there. My friend was brave and took the ropes down to Hideaway, she said it was beautiful but a small beach with rocks on both sides. So once you make it down, the only way back, is up the steep slippery red clay path pulling yourself along the ropes. My friend returned covered in red mud, but happy, took it like a champ. Ruined her clothes. I definitely wouldn't plan to carry anything down other than a towel or some water stuffed in your shorts.
Enjoyed this. Path is steep but very doable. They give u ropes to help yourself up the path. Locals come here, so u know its good
It is a lovely little beach. It is a bit of a hike to get there (down a steep dirt slope), but worth it once you arrive. No lifeguards, but this adds to the magic of the place. Great snorkeling, though it can be a bit murky.
Steep trail to get down and slippery when wet. Great view snorkel spot and lots of crabs on the rocks!
Small beautiful beach. Maybe 100 yards long.great snorkeling when ocean isn't stirred up. Hard to find parking. Might be 10 spots. Climb down a steep cliff trail. Could be extremely difficult if it's wet. Gorgeous.
The walk down was fairly treacherous as the trail was steep and muddy. If you're going down and people are coming up, one of you must yield since the trail is so narrow. Flimsy ropes to ease your ascent/descent. The day we were there the seas were extremely rough so snorkelling was a bust. Very strong surf and riptide as well, not for inexperienced swimmers. We did have a monk seal come onshore just a few feet away. Kind of disappointing all in all due to weather conditions
Was one of the best places we went while in Kauai. The trek down to the beach alone was really memorable.
Nice small beach. Decent snorkeling. Path to get there is not for the faint of heart or those not in at least decent shape. Worth the effort.
Gorgeous, secluded beach with turquoise water and interesting volcanic rock. Quite a tricky path/climb down, but definitely worth it. A very special beach. Access is a dirt track just beside the tennis court and there's some parking just there.
Gorgeous little beach and water was amazing for snorkeling! Best reef we've seen other than the Na Pali coast. Must see for sure! We wore fip flops on the hike down/up and did just fine. Will be back!
An absolutely gorgeous beach. Some of the best snorkeling on the north shore. The climb down can be precarious though. The railing has been worked on since 2017. Hold on to the ropes as the trail is generally slippery. As long as you wear good shoes, you should be fine. I've swam with many fish and sea turtles here. A great beach to catch a sunset. Parking can be trying as their are so few spots. Other solutions are either to walk or ride a bike to the trail head.
There isn't too much parking to get down the steep track but it's a great little place to snorkel, see lots of fish and inevitably get sunburnt because you forgot to put on enough sunblock/suncream from the excitement of seeing all the fish.
My favorite beach on the whole island. Be prepared to climb down a slippery muddy cliff side to get down to it, but I truly believe this beach has the best snorkeling. While we where there we where able to swim with a total of 8 sea turtles. The only reason why it’s not 5 stars is because the parking is absolutely terrible. There’s only about 10 spots and good luck trying to get one of them. You are able to use the St. Regis’s “free” valet service to park, but be ready to tip your driver.
It's an adventure to hike down especially when it's raining but it is worth it! The water is so clear, the waves are perfect, the temperature is just right and I would definitely visit again.
Crowded little beach, but it doesnt deter from the beauty. There are only 7 parking spots so you may have to rely on timing, or there is parking on the side of the road starting about a quarter mile up. The walk down to the beach is steep but it has ropes to help with the decline/incline. The beach has a ton of shade making it amazing for staying cool in the hawaiian heat. Snorkeling is fantastic so dont forget your mask and fins
Only worth going if the water is calm. Other than that it’s nothing special the climb down is not to fun when it’s muddy and wet.
