Bluebird Diner reviews
30Reliably good food. An ideal place to bring visitors. A fairly adventurous rotating menu for folks who like to try new things, but visiting out-of-town relatives with limited palates can still find comfort food.
Ordered cheese burger and Cuban. Burger was over done and dry Cuban was good. There were only 5 groups eating and our waitress was too busy chatting with other waitresses and drinking to notice that we were done. After 15 minutes had to take the few steps to her and ask to pay.
Our group got lucky and arrived between breakfast and lunch on a weekday. There was a bit of a wait and the entrance is tiny. I have a service dog and it was a little tight getting him through the restaurant and settled under a small booth, but the staff helped identify the best available spot for us. The food was delicious and unique which is what I hoped for. The sausage gravy was smoky and delicious, the hamburger smelled amazing with lots of juices trapped inside, the macaroni and cheese was plentiful and delicious. Service was prompt and friendly even though they seemed a bit stressed getting to everyone. I’d really like to give them 4.5 stars.
Although the service may vary, the food is always good. Great eggs, omelets, and the pork green chili goes well on EVERYTHING.
Great breakfast! Hashbrowns with bacon, jalepanos etc.fabulous.pancakes were delicious! Coffee great even if it was 112 heat index that day.
Food was excellent, I'm in love with the green pork chili. Wish I had the recipe! My kids really liked their sandwiches as well. Probably my favorite cafe experience since CJ Diner! Lastly, Tyler C.was a great server; attentive, efficient, and friendly. We will definitely return.
I called today to order food for my staff and wanted to pick it up. Was informed "we dont do pickups, we are too busy".
The Hamburg Inn wasnt too busy, they were more than willing to take my $80.
Wont make that mistake again. Customer service fail.
Wonderful food, pleasant wait staff, my kids say they have the BEST coffee. Some dishes are a little pricey.
Fantastic breakfast. Great service. Fast and friendly. Had the huevos epsteinos; really good polenta, topped with poached eggs and homemade green chili with pork! Cinnamon rolls are EXCELLENT!
Visited on a busy Saturday morning and sat at the bar. Food was made fast, portions of good qualit, and all was delicious. Cheap and service was very good. Constantly a server topping off my coffee. It's the type of place for families, tshirts/shorts and some good company.
Fantastic food. Good service. Ate there three times in the same week. It's good. Go there! Their eggs Benedict is unbelievable!
Place had good reviews. Our experience was just average. Nothing to brag about. The service was mediocre.
This is our absolute favorite breakfast and brunch spot. Has amazing omelettes, and perhaps more importantly the best buttermilk pancakes.
Excellent food if you come thru Iowa city you have got to have breakfast here you have to go early there always a wait. I haven't had lunch there but my husband has he said its excellent to.
Service was great. I had pulled pork & it was dry & fries whimpy. Others in my group said their sandwiches were good, but agreed with fries. Two who ordered breakfast for lunch were very pleased. With its reputation, I'll probably give it another try.
Food was good, service a little slow and a little pricey although portion sizes were big. 2 burgers, fries and drinks cost $28.
Loved it! Great old school diner. The food was delicious and the diner itself was vintage mid-60s. Great neighborhood
Great food and fast service. You may have to wait to get a table on the weekend, but it's not long.
Amazing breakfast and all around amazing diner! Iowa City’s own ‘Luke’s Diner’ from the TV show, Gilmore Girls.:)
Fantastic place! We went for breakfast. It was very busy but they got our party of 6 in very quickly. The staff were very nice, friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding. Highlights included the biscuits and gravy which included a full sausage patty on each biscuit and great tasting gravy. The food was hot and came out in a good time. The Popeye Omelet was great as well. We will definitely come back when we are in town.
