Hessen Haus reviews
26 Some friends took us to Hessen Haus a while ago.
This place has a great atmosphere and even better food.
I can't remember what everything we ate was called, but it was really good. We had some great beer, including Das Boot.
The Pretzel was really good.
We don't get out to Des Moines often, but I would like to get back out just to go to Hessen House and have some more beer and delicious food. You aren't going to go wrong by trying it out.
Fast and friendly service. Food was delicious! Got the pretzel fries, black forest schnitzel, and wienerschnitzel.
Ganz Gut! I am a German beer lover.nobody on this side of the Rhine River has a better selection! Plus great German food and friendly staff! Aufwiedersehen!
When I was in high school I visited a German hall in Portland and loved it. I haven't been around one until we drove through here. I'm so glad I stopped.
We had two small kids but it was totally fine, no one harassed us. It was hard to find an empty table but as soon as we did we were served right away even though they seemed to be slammed.
I loved the food and my son ate all his mac and cheese without being prodded.
The best Germain food in dsm. Extremely authentic beer hall and a selection of beer to die for if your a Deutsche-phile! Prosit!
Delicious food quick friendly service! Nice variety of beer even if your not a beer drinker. Recommend blueberry cider!
Great atmosphere! Classic German fare at a reasonable price. Great beer selection. AND they play classic rock over the house sound system!
It was very good. One problem kept it from getting five stars. They had no sweet mustard for the white sausage.
My family loves this place. We visit when they are in town and it is a joy and the food is lecker
I was in this evening from Kansas City which has no great German restaurants. This was a refreshing change in large part because of my server, Katelyn! I had beer cheese soup as a starter and the sausage platter with a side of German potato salad and of course a wonderful German beet that was recommended by Katelyn. Everything was on point! The service and food were excellent. A wonderful relaxed atmosphere which is a great place to catch a game! I’ll definitely be back soon! I completed my meal with a slice of German Chocolate Cake.delicious! Don’t come to this wonder place and order a Bud Light like the table next to me! Really? !
One of the best bars in town. They have the largest German beer on-tap selection in the world. The pretzels are amazing. If you go late on a weekend, it is crazy loud with loud music that does not fit the german atmosphere; it is better during the week. The patio is great during the summer. They have mutliple gluten free drinks if someone in your party needs that.
Come for the food and stay for the beer! Yummy German food selection. Everything from meatloaf to pretzels. The beer selection is amazing!
I wish I could be here closer to October, because this place has all the good German and Euro beers. I love the long tables in the Oktoberfest style, and the decor which is very suitable for those of you who love to enjoy German beers.
Amazing bar with a fun environment! Make sure you plan ahead though because it's usually packed on the weekends. The cheese curds might change your life.
Awesome selection of German beers (mostly bayern). Awesome German food. We had 2 different waiter/waitress. He was very nice and prompt with service making sure everything was okay.she was not nice (rude and snippy) to the much larger group that had joined us.
Great atmosphere, great food, but the service is a little slow. However, they were very busy when we were there, so it's understandable.
I normally do not like German food and ended in this place by misluck.
However food is even fattier and less attractive than anything I have tasted in Germany.
Service is poor. We were served our cold appetizers together with the warm main dishes.
The set up might remind German inns for non-European visitors but this is where Germany stops.
Very authentic German fare. Great service. The train though.holy hand grenades that thing is LOUD!
Came in for drinks and food waited 20 minutes for a server and finally ordered from bar, waited another 30 minutes for food just to find out that it had been sitting there getting cold they offered to remake but still charged us full price for everything, supper unhappy
Update: assuming he comes everything as stated bar manager Dave handled the situation
Amazing German food and beer selection with a great vibe and friendly staff. One of the best places downtown overall.
