Super 8 by Wyndham Clive/W Des Moines reviews
36This place advertised truck parking. That is inaccurate. I also asked several times on the phone call to place my reservation. It's a small and poorly maintained building. I will update again once I get in this marvelous nonrefundable room
Bed was hard and had way too much bounce. The breakfast was just some cereal. Very disappointing
I give this hotel a negative zero star rating. Before I ever checked in, I was charged a holding fee for one night stay and then when I checked in, I was charged a holding fee for one night AGAIN. While trying to explain this to the night manager, he was immediately rude saying that I must not know how it goes with staying at a hotel and to take it up with my bank in the morning. Not only was he rude, he never asked if I wanted to move forward with using the same card I reserved my room with. He simply said “I’m going to use the card you have on file. ” He had NO customer service etiquette from the moment he greeted me. After going to the car (where he told me to “make it do what it do” when creating a parking space for myself because no others were available), to get my clothes and my husband; my husband tries to level with him about the additional charge but he was still rude. We traveled 5 hours and was tired so we tried to overlook the situation and would just called the bank the next day. But as my husband was going back out to make sure the car was locked, he over heard the front desk clerk (who claimed to be the manager) speaking extremely negatively in the most vulger way about us to another young lady. My husband approached him to let him know he heard every rude thing he’d said about us. The guy became defensive and started calling my husband out of his name and threatening to physically harm him. So we decided to leave, asking him to cancel and refund our entire stay. He supposedly did this as he continued to make idle threats and encouraged another young man there with him (who had an house arrest band on his ankle) to make physical threats as well. He called the police on us as we were leaving while he and the other young man continued to follow us out to the parking lot threatening physical harm on us. I WILL NEVER STAY AT ANY OTHER SUPER 8 NOR WILL I RECOMMEND THIS PARTICULAR LOCATION TO ANYONE ELSE. I can’t wait to speak with the person who REALLY runs this place to inform him of the trash he has running his business at night time.
If you don’t mind staying at a facility where the staff is ghetto AF, then this is the place for you. Otherwise DO NOT STAY AT THE SUPER 8 by Wyndham in Clive/West Des Moines.
Price and room were good, but front desk lady was great! Happy and friendly, very helpful for all my little requests.
The room itself was not uncomfortable. However— and there are several “howevers”:
1. When we arrived the night clerk was loudly berating an elderly guest who had trouble finding his room. Regardless of how many times the directions had been given previously, no guest should be treated that way
2. When we entered our room, though it was relatively clean, we found a container with half a sandwich and a pair of socks.
3. The bedspread on one of the beds was quite wrinkled, making us wonder if it was clean.
4. The tub was pretty clean, but the nonslip decals were not completely clean.
5. Finally, though the room was advertised with breakfast, there was none. The explanation was COVID-19, yet there were no other COVID-19 precautions such as mask requirements. Nor were we offered a sack breakfast as we had in other hotels where breakfast was curtailed due to COVID-19.
Accordingly, the room was acceptable, but the hotel needs much improvement.
Mattress pad had a large brown stain. The decaf coffee in the morning was cold like it had been made the night before (I like to drink half caff). No breakfast! Sign states they are waiting for the CDC to tell them they can open breakfast back up, but that has already happened. All restaurants are full open, so you could serve packaged foods at minimum. Every other hotel is providing things like packaged muffins, yogurts, fruit cups, etc.this Super 8 only serves cold coffee (and "juice" is crossed off the sign, so) I went to the front desk a few times for things and nobody was there. It wasn't the dirtiest Super 8 I've stayed in, so I'll give them two stars. I'd stay here again because it was literally the cheapest option and overall, it was relatively clean, but know that you get what you pay for.
Not a good experience. Our toilet didn't work, we had it checked by the desk clerk who said it was fine. It never flushed at all.
Bait and switch! I booked this hotel because their website has glowing information about their Covid precautions - specifically, that all staff wear masks. The website also says you get disinfecting wipes at check in and hand sanitizer in your room.
NONE of this is true, and the manager just smirked when I asked about him not wearing a masks. He pointed to a small plastic partition and said he doesn't wear a mask because they have that small partition. It only covers part of the area; it is not a substitute for a mask.
They even had a cup that said "Clean Pens" on it, but it was empty, so I had to use the pen the manager is using.
No hand sanitizer anywhere, people who aren't socially distanced are lounging around in the lobby.
This hotel is making a joke out of their own Covid policies, at the expense of guest safety!
Ok, needs some basic up dating n shower drain was slow to drain out, carpet needed shampooing too. Basement floor room. ️
Junk breakfast didn't have anything, dirty shower, housekeepers hardly speak english, I wrote a letter and a list and left it for my fiance that was staying longer then i was and they threw it away. When clearly it was a letter with a pen right next to it on the dresser!
Nice room, comfy bed. My only complaint is all the styrofoam at breakfast. It makes me not want to eat if I have to use it.
STAY HERE! Will at the front desk might have been the nicest person I’ve dealt with at a hotel. Unbelievably accommodating to our needs after driving all day. The rooms were big, clean, nice showers, and the pillows felt like clouds. We have been sleeping in a campervan, so maybe we were just spoiled with a nice bed. But highly recommend this location. Stay away from the Super 8 in Altoona a little further down. Glenda their manager is horrid. 10/10 a better location here.
Clean rooms, friendly staff. Dog friendly with a nice back yard. I would have liked a lower carb breakfast, but I understand October is not a busy season.
Very nice and restful hotel. Good hot breakfast. Rooms were spacious and clean and the staff was very acomidating
Not a bad place to stay for the price. Right off the interstate and close to a lot of places to eat. The room was updated and looked pretty good. The bed was work but not uncomfortable. The shower had great pressure. The room did have a musty smell at first that was easily subdued with an air freshener and some air febreeze.
Dirty tub, toilet and floor. Beds were sloppily made. Found old food and milk in the fridge. Gross.
Haven't stayed here, but they let me park my vehicle there sometimes while I'm gone for work. They do it at no cost. Other hotels nearby have turned me down.
Hotel is clean. Good for an overnight stay while travelling. Air conditioner and exhaust fan in room were incredibly noisy.
The suite was clean and comfortable. The house keeping staff was amazing! Great stat for a good price. Breakfast could have been better.
The one woman who works up front at pm Saturday is absolutely rude and as a poor attitude towards me.
