Bunna = Coffee. While coffee is everything in Ethiopia, it is one of the many reasons why this authentic Ethiopian Vegan restaurant is one of the most loved, most cherish establishments in Bushwick, Brooklyn (thankfully spared the most unforgiving critic of all: the Coronavirus). For me the main reason that brings me back to Bunna time and time again is the large vegan platter, or their beyaynetu feast. Think of an artist's palette with vibrant dollops of color, full of goodness and vitality. The sharing platter consists of all Bunna's best hits: from steamed collard greens to spicy berbere cooked red lentils, each bringing a unique flavor to culminate in one extremely satisfying experience. The dishes are seated on a bed of inerja (the staple carb of Ethiopia), a few more rolls are served on the side. The inerja is a perfect bedfellow to the saucy sides, but try too, like I usually do, to order a side of basmati rice. Next reason: ok, the coffee. Traditionally prepared, the Ethiopian coffee served here is full of character — strong, stubborn yet warm and full of depth, revealing itself slow in sips. Next BIG reason: Dessert, namely the Bunna baklava. It's flaky, crispy, and wonderfully sweet with coffee-infused syrup and pistachios, seriously good. Lastly, the vibe. Bunna has this special atmosphere that makes one feel like a welcomed guest. Under its roof is an indelible energy, especially in the evenings when the crowd starts packing in, and the DJ is appreciated but not intrusive. It is a haven for communal conversations over a delicious meal and coffee. Try Bunna at least once in your life.

I don’t write reviews so you know the service is horrible if I take the time to do this! I would not recommend I received horrible service from the minute I walked in.the server was very rude when asking for details about the menu ordered a coffee tasted it like milk he refused to fix it or negotiate a refund I will definitely not be be coming back here

Highly recommended! The only note I have that food was served in disposable dishes so it was a bit disappointing. Other then that-food was delicious!

Great ambience. The food came out quick and it's cheap! The only drawback for this place is that it's cash only.

40 minutes to take order. Drinks/Food arrived at 1030pm. Was seated at 930pm. This is after having to call a manager. People who came in after us got thsir good before us. Explanation was that our order was missed.

This was my first time eating Ethiopian food and it was a perfect experience. The food was incredible, the server was friendly, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. If you're a vegetarian coffee lover like myself, this place is a must try.

Who doesn't live great food AND great music? The best combination. I tried one of their appetizers. I will visit again and try more menu items.

Cash only. Got the lunch for 2 and it was a perfect portion of 8 different dishes and 4 bread rolls! Great price and great service

Very busy as the area has redeveloped and locals are interested in Ethiopian food. Very delicious meals, nice atmosphere, polite staff.

The brunch came out in a split second and the kita was flaky and delicious. To top it off it’s nice and cheap! Amazing and will definitely return for dinner.

Very flavorful vegetarian food, friendly staff, inviting space. Randomly stumbled upon this place while visiting a nearby warehouse. The injera was not too tangy like I have experienced at some other places so that was pleasant surprise. Maybe it was just because of the flavor of the food.or the amazing add on hot sauce which you should def spring for. Not burn your mouth hot, packed with heat and flavor instead. HAPPY hour from 12-7 was perfect for lunch. I am looking forward to coming back for their coffee ceremony. I am full but not stuffed. My body is very happy.
