HRA Men's Shelter reviews
26I stayed here one night and it wasn't bad. The only thing was that it was very cold. But I slept good but that is my experience that one night. I had met a guy there and we looked out for each other and that was a blessing.
Had to see for myself. Tough times kicked me in the behind but no one bothered me and overall I didn't feel like there was a threat of violence (which I was grateful for) It's a hard job but if your going to do it try harder. The guards were the best part (except for one guy that got mad at me for falling asleep waiting outside one of the offices) he said I was being "disrespectful" and that "this is not the street. " Could have been more polite considering. Imagine being kicked while you are down (almost literally).
Despite the lack of workers due to covid, they are supportive as long you trying to get yourself back on track. I'm greatful for even having a place to go due to my situation.
I had a relative missing came all the down here straight from work to try to find out if my relative still live here. I was told " they could not tell me anything, " wow! This is a policy that definitely need to be change, when a serious case arrive. This place have me saying thank god, I have a roof over my head. Because this place is a hybrid of rikers island and creedmore.
The security officers who work there, so called (homeless police) think they are actually police. They are civilians.
Maybe the best shelter Im Nyc clean they have a cleaning company that works there wildcat three meals a. Day movies holiday meals only issue in summer no fans In the toom metal detector lot of security case worker to assist with housing and employment
Most of the administrative staff members dont help the homeless clients but make their journey through the shelter system worse. Now there are only a few workers who try to make it easier and comfortable but the bad apples are many
If you looking to get help asap.dont count on them the people are so rude and treat you like you dont deserve life. I came in with my wife and because we didnt have our marriage certificate in hand they made us wait 16 hours! Just to get placed.like I said they will help just dont expect it to be asap.very rude only my caseworker who I sat down with & interviewed with is understanding
Because their employees are not there to help nobody they are only there for the payroll. Is sad to just look at that place.
Pretty good place for only 1 night No shower or bathroom, u get transferred to a different shelter the next day
Hey man this place is to help you get back on your feet even when the people in there sucks you need to keep focus and use the tools they can give you weather is going back to school or getting a job while at least you have a roof.but most important get yourself out of the system as soon as you can.do not become a parasite of the system!
If u must be here not that bad but you will not want to be there too long. Ok for a couple of nights sleep
NEW YORK CITY have The worse-case of Sex & Drugs Addiction.
Manhattan have Meth & Hard Drugs Addiction
Bronx have Weeds, Crack Cocaine & All Hard Drugs Addiction
I know someone that is there and I was told that the place this picture truly disgusting and all it is good for is to sleep shower and get out by 8 and be in by 8. If you're not there on time the bed will be giving up to someone else you do get a very large Locker all to yourself.
Shyt place and even worse staff disrespectful unhelpfull uncaring low minded all should be fired and restaffed not saying that do to my own experience but from first point of view with out emotional involvement even the officers are blaintly and extremely disrespectful these people do no deserve to be in the same place as those in need of help no exceptions.
This place needs improvement. Everybody is all over the place. It has bed bugs and the staff does nothing about it. It is the worst shelter ever. God willing i never return to this place. It's truly a nightmare.
The facility's water was shut off for 8hrs and the facility accommodates over 4,000 residents. Is this legal?
Worse ever, staff are no good and 95 % are coming from deferment jails, so its like going to jail from 9 pm to 6 am
There are there to help. They offer many services. Including vocational, and, career placement.
As a advocate for the clients in the past, my work has improved the physical aspects of a majority of the building. But there is still major problems concerning civil and nutritional issues. Security is still untrained and even worse, and are a major problem in regards with violence. Not a good place to visit or stay. That's why you see so many homeless people on the streets and in the subway system.
