Tompkins Square Park reviews
32 You could get mugged and a police summons all in the sane evening.
Gets stabby always, I feel like the New Locals bring their English Bulldogs here to pretend they're struggling in Edgy New York.
I attended the Tribute to Charlie Parker Jazz festival.
I've attended for the past 5 years and have never been let down. The. Crowd is mature and eager to hear the artist who perform. The weather was perfect. The only downside is that this usually marks the end of summer for me
Please be on the lookout for this event next year, it usually happens at 3 different venues in the city. You won't be disappointed.
The park has undergone a drastic transformation over the years. You don’t see as many drugs or litter anymore although it still has its fair share of homeless people on the premises. It has become a popular place to walk your dog, people watch, or just sit down and rest for a bit. The park is surrounded by lots of new trendy bars in the neighborhood making the area more alluring for tourists. This has helped make the park safer and more vibrant.
This is a park with a great history and some massive old trees to shade visitors from the summer heat. Also basketball courts with fierce local games, some hockey and skateboard activity. Not always the cleanest of parks but. It's new york isn't it?
One of my favorite spots - great vibe, great for people watching, pets, basketball & sunning yourself:)
Big park, spacious, the kids play area needs a upgrade. A good place to enjoy the scenery, the people, and embrace the surroundings.
This park is big enough not to feel crowded and small enough not to get lost, it is clean and safe with enough grass to lay down, a children play area and two dogs run. Tompkins Square park is a great park to relax.
Been living in the area for about 13years love this park.my niece and God son love the different little play grounds in side the actual park. Only down fall way to many homeless /drunken people sitting around and in groups some just waiting for a church or some kind of charity that gives out food. Never had an issue with this BUT IT IS NOTICABLE!
Ugh. It could be such a nice park but instead its dirty, disgusting and smells.
Theres a large homeless population that lives in the park who litter and use the park as a bathroom. Walk through any of the paths and the whole thing smells like urine. The park tries to keep trash under control at least.
There are bathrooms at least, but they smell worse than any porta-potty I've been in. The pool and sports areas are decent, hence two stars, but the rest of the park I'd stay away from.
I grew up playing and Thompson Square Park as a child in the 1960s 70s and 80s I still walk to that Park I even perform my Floetry from time to time the memories!
Although it was much gritter in the 80/90s and while there has been a substantial effort to clean up the park you can still see people sleeping on benches overdosed on drugs or drunk inside the park on any given day and time. It's not a place you want kids to run around in.
I was wondering around New York while on business and had the fortunate opportunity to spend some time in this park. It was very relaxing and fun. I recommend anyone in the area to go because you can actually be comfortable and relaxed even if you're a tourist.
