Edgar Allan Poe House, Philadelphia PA

I passed by today to just get some photos of the outside of the museum. Unfortunately it is still closed due to COVID-19. Hopefully the next time I am in the area this place will be back open to visitors and I will be able to see inside one of the final homes of Edgar Allan Poe and give an even more positive review.

This was a house where edgar allan poe lived at one time. House has a sad energy and they show a short film about his life. Although he was a famous poet, his life was short and challenging.

Knock once for entry. Free admission. Excellent place to stop by - probably a 30-45 minute visit for most people. The rooms are mostly empty except for some cool newspaper clippings for the time period he was here and such.

Visiting the Poe museum was great! There are two staff members there who are extremely kind and helpful. You knock once to gain entrance (recall a certain poem?). There is an option to watch a 8 minute video on his life. The film is very informative. The house has several rooms, the steps are steep so I recommend wearing flats. There is a cute little gift shop. I purchased a bookmark. Overall wonderful experience. Oh and admission is free.

Great historical place to visit! I would highly recommend putting this on your to-do list while visiting the city of Philadelphia. The Rangers were so friendly & knowledge.

The guides were very nice and informative. There isn't much to see bit it a good example of Philadelphia style homes.

Rangers were great! This site requires just a quick visit so definitely something you can squeeze into your schedule.

Blows your mind! Looks closed but it isnt. The attention to detail of the staff there shows they take pride in their profession. They went above and beyond teaching my family and I. The lady was so nice there she even showed us what some of the plants outside are. My family loved it there. A BIG Thanks to the staff there. We really appreciate what you taught us. Still looking for the lemon plant for my own garden.

If you are very interested in Poe, then this is worth a visit. Otherwise, it's out of the way and either in disrepair or under construction. The staff were friendly.

He lived there only a short time, but masterpieces were born there. Wish they had move furnishings of time period. Some room are empty. Still worth the stop and Yards brewery is a block down the street

Very interesting historical spot. Recommend checking out for those visiting from out of town, like myself!

One of my favorite authors.
Made it a point to visit this place when I was in Philadelphia. Reached till a stone's throw distance of this place when it suddenly started raining heavily.
Had a bus for new York, so took a cab back.
Will have to wait till my next visit to USA.
The place isn't perhaps for everybody, but you may have a soft corner for literature in general, and in works of edgar allan poe.
I visited the central libraries rare books section where there's the pet raven of Charles Dickens, named grip (in rare books section, near Elkins library), this is said to have inspired edgar's work, raven. The statue of this raven is also present near his house (I couldn't see myself, had seen that I pictures).
Quite interesting is the way things connect, makes the whole travel more meaningful.

Interesting look at a place where Poe lived for a year, but not as many artifacts as I would have liked for a historic house. Still neat to learn more about Poe.

Well done, small National Park which includes a lot of information about Poe. Video is very interesting (even if it cuts out him living in Baltimore) and the rangers are extremely helpful, funny, and knowledgeable.

Not historically interesting pretty much an empty old house with info on the walls. The one in Baltimore is something to see.

Easy parking and access. Not many people on tour. Rooms baren no furnishings but history of his short stay here interesting.

This was the best free museum I’ve ever visited. I felt obliged to shop the gift shop, which was fine because it is well stocked. We really enjoyed this hidden gem!

Self guided tour, pretty simple but could use some upgrades in terms of showcasing the information

The place is really nice, the tour guide provided very important information.
One half of the museum is a store where you can buy E. A. P’s books and other interesting things related to the world of E. A. P.

Totally geeked out here. Have been a fan of Poe's since I could remember so seeing the place where he lived with his family for a year and The infamous cellar was a dream come true. Highly recommend stopping in. There's also a gift shop and a place to make Edgar stamps for a bookmark.
