Max's Allegheny Tavern reviews
36It's okay. Service is great. Food is not bad. The atmosphere is a little depressing cos it's so dark and there's no music. I come back every two years
We ended up not even eating there because it was terrible terrible service and everyone was ignoring us
Great Food, great Drinks and Great People! This is a must visit in Pittsburgh for good German food!
Max's has been my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh since I was a child. I grew up with their "magic piano", Shirley Temples, and potato pancake Rueben. We had family reunions and birthday parties here and it has always been a wonderful experience. It is still my go-to today! Best fish sandwich in the Burgh by far!
Ended up walking out after waiting so long. Didn’t seem like they wanted customers tonite several others walked out too. Not the Max’s I knew.
I've been here about three times and I've had a great time every time. The atmosphere is really nice, it makes me feel like I've gone back in time.
Brought friends with deep German connections to Max's for a late dinner. They were thrilled with the food and beer selection. The service was pleasantly attentive without being intrusive. The decor, some of which is original to the building, reflect the character and era of the place. Smaller dining spaces - actually a succession of separate rooms - eliminates the noise level that pervades the bar, allowing for comfortable conversations. The desserts are worth saving room for. I highly recommend this German family restaurant.
Love this place. My only criticism is that my soup was served warm instead of piping hot. The beer was delightful and my friend had a wonderful reuben sandwich. Instead of a bun, they serve the reuben between 2 potato pancakes! Yum!
Max's is a great place to sit and relax while having a meal. The food is great pub fare and I've never had a bad meal there.
The premium German restaurant of Allegheny, is a Pittsburgh institution and she has the food to support the claim.
Nice pours, fantastic reasturant quality food. (non barfood), beautiful dining/drinking environment creating a feeling of comfort and last but nice least great employees
Have always loved this place. Got take out tonight and the order was wrong and my husband bit into a bread wrapper tie in his sandwich.
1st visit, great service, GREAT Food from a large menu. I wish I could handle the drive to Pittsburgh as easy as I use to, I'd be a regular!
Max's Allegheny Tavern simply has THE best German food in Pittsburgh. Schnitzels are outstanding as is the kase spatzle and the worsts are the best.and for dessert homemade apple strudel.can't be beat. And the prices are more than reasonable. Enjoy
Very nice friendly place you Get free parking and free shuttle service to Heinz Field and back very nice atmosphere also. The the food and drinks were also very good and very very reasonably priced.
Authentic German food, very tasty. The staff was excellent and attentive. It had and old world charm.
Awful food, I’m sick from it and I only took a few bites. And the waitress referred to us as numbers and got all of our order mixed up and messed up. I’m SUPER disappointed in this dinner choice. Such a waste of dinner in Pittsburgh. Don’t go here for dinner. Even the drink selection sucks. I debated on not paying for my meal, i feel like i was robbed eating at that awful place
Excellent, authentic German food. Best I've had since I lived in Germany. Yager schnitzel is awesome!
Food is always amazing and despite being extremely busy during the Music Fest, the service was still great!
