Max's Allegheny Tavern reviews
36I had to go to Max's to be with a group. The company was fine, the food was not. The pork chops tasted like ham. The potato pancakes tasted like buckwheat.no potato flavor. Luckily the cucumber onion salad was flavorful. The waitress was grumpy.no smile.no homestyle German welcome.
Great food great staff the food is top top if you like german food and a good place to eat this is it has everything for all ages if you have never been here i tell you what your missing out on one of pittsburgh beat placese to eat
Get your German schnitzel or sausage fix, or a big spinach salad with bacon dressing or fish sandwich the size of the whole plate!
One of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. It never disappoints and I love the old building and bar.
Good kielbasa platter with potato pancake, sweet & sour cabbage. Lovely waitress. Been customer for years. Great lunch place.
The Chicken Viennese was simply world-class. Jamie recommended the apple fritter for dessert, and it was great. From out-of-town, and was hoping the food was as good as its menu. It certainly was. Highly recommended.
Love it. We go as often as we can. Most authentic German food until Philly to the East and Milwaukee to the west.
First time there today. It was amazing. The authentic food is excellent, the atmosphere is a perfect old school feel. You feel like your back in the day as soon as you walk in. Extremely clean bar. Can't wait to go back.
Mom and pop german with American fare. Usually packed. No live.music on the Monday I went. Had the goulash and ir was good but a little dry.
Delicious German food and friendly staff. Kielbasa nachos and a meat and cheese plate are on the appetizer menu and are very tasty! There are plenty of choices from snacks and sandwiches to entrees and dessert. Great beer list, too!
Max's is one of Pittsburgh's hidden gems. The food is always amazing and the portions are generous. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Don't forget to get dessert!
Great food, service and beautiful historic building, architecture & history. Historic history told on newspaper style menu. Don't forget to check out the original bar with beautiful woodworking. A North Side must visit for all.
It's definately not the Max's of days gone by. When I first moved back to the area I couldn't wait to visit. But sadly my order of Sauer braten was a wafer thin slice of very tough beef, (with gravy not at all like Sauer braten gravy, but like a packaged roast beef gravy) with potato pancakes so dry they made me imeadiately reach for the expensive beer I ordered. My wife on the other hand enjoyed her jeager schnitzel and spaetzel. Hence the 3 stars instead of less.
One of the best restaurant/Pubs in the Burgh.if you are looking for German cuisine it's the best you can get in Pittsburgh hands down bar none.
Great german food at good prices. A big menu with lots of choices and each dish better than the next!
What you see is what you get. Nice place for a meeting or just a quick bite. Been here for years and is the same experience every time.
