Museum of the American Revolution reviews
37Extremely well done museum. Truly encompasses most aspects of the revolution. Take the kids, they won't be bored, let them see the sacrafice first hand, so that we can enjoy our country. Washington's tent exhibit is worth the wait, don't miss it. Neat gift shop, a bit pricey.
We arrived at about 11: 00 AM and weren’t quite finished by closing at 5: 00. Our lunch break was only a cup of coffee and a shared pretzel since we didn’t want to spend the time. The cafeteria and the bookstore had great offerings, but if you are like us and read everything, you will definitely need all day. The docents recommended coming in Fall rather than Spring on weekdays when the school groups arrive.
I am a student of the Revolution and still learned a great deal about the background, causes, and conflicts leading up to the war. Really loved the interactive displays and the privateer ship.
Don’t miss the film about Washington’s Tent!
Ask questions, the docents have lots of stories to tell and they are good at it.
Recommend for all ages. Under 10 might need to be encouraged to interact, but there is stuff there for them.
I wish there was a little more about the war in the Southern Colonies, but otherwise very complete.
Imagine them gathering together to argue and discuss their options and eventually draft a declaration of grievances that set the stage, not just for a war of independence, for a radically new type of government "of the people, by the people and for the people.
Went here early on a Sunday morning, must have tickets in advance. Husband waited in line at 830. Our guide was helpful and very knowledgeable about this location and felt very well with the public.
An excellent, Interactive exhibit that poses thoughtful questions and makes contemporary the history of freedom. We spent 3 hours, used the audio guide, and tolerated the multiple school tours.
I love this place - the exhibition is made with talent and is very modern. You can spend hours and won’t recognize it.
Personnel is very kind.
Unfortunately they are closed due to the pandemic.
Had an amazing time learning more about our history. It is really nice that you cram get a pin to leave and come back so you do not have to do it all in one go. We went and had lunch and came back. We also got to see a performance for indigenous people day. It was so cool to sit and see some of the tribal dances they would do and some they still do.
Such a thorough and immersive experience! We went for my birthday on July 3, so it was especially great as they were gearing up for the Fourth. Absolutely worth the trip!
The museum was LOADED with information! The museum had a lot of artifacts to match with the information as well. But there wasn't much talk about the contributuons of other cultures such as the Jewish or African American in the process of the Revolution.
Guaranteed you will learn something, no matter how well informed you may be.
They were having a special display on Alexander Hamilton (whose biography I recently read) that was superb. (An aside - How ironic that the "Federalist Society" picks judges that are for states rights at the expense of federal power - the opposite of what it means to be federalist, but then hypocrisy is a GOP requirement).
The staff is very informed and friendly, and were particularly good with children.
Several "shows" (Movies/displays) that are well worth your time.
A couple of "interactive" displays (loading a canon, a sailing ship) that were great for kids.
Amazing, amazing, amazing! Like walking back in time, the amount of artifacts, the variety of artifacts and the condition of the artifacts will blow you mind. Makes it hard to believe that the items on display are 250 yrs old or older. The museum brings a true feeling of Patriotism and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all that gave the ultimate and most selfless sacrifice in the hope that we would become the Greatest of all Nations. The land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. God Bless America and all those that have and will give their lives in protection of this country and the Freedoms it was founded on.
I enjoyed the visit but greatly prefer museums where you can explore. This felt very constrained. (Fixed path with a "designed by committee" feel) The staff members were wonderful, particularly the docent at the "privateer" section. Worth a visit but I don't expect to want to return.
A great museum experience for the entire family! Modern, interactive exhibits tell the story of the pursuit of liberty and freedom that is the foundation of the USA. Inspiring.
Little disappointed. Perhaps i was expecting more. Most "exhibits" are just cards depicting various events and pictures thereof. Very few actual artifacts. Two very clear issues: (1) the guided tours are annoying to rest of the patrons. They are loud, distracting and disruptive, especially in a small space like here. (2) The lights are too dim to read in most places, making them almost useless.
Great museum. Washington's tent is a little overrated though. You don't actually get to see in the tent.
You need to spend a half a day here to take in everything right.
Great food in their cafe.
Every employee was helpful
Can't say enough about this museum. Excellent history, very friendly helpful people and lots of historical items that you wouldn't expect. Very well laid out. Well worth the price of admission.
Great museum - very engaging, well organized and exceptional displays. Great bookstore and gift shop!
Pretty good. Would not recommend for kids. It was very long and detailed which could bore your children
I was stunned by the excellent collection at the Musuem of the American Revolution. Everything is curated so well. The videos help you make sense of the history visible in every corner of the place. This place makes history come alive. I went in knowing nothing about the history of the American Revolution and I can say I definitely learnt a lot from my visit to the musuem. Also the musuem store has a good collection for people wanting to take a souvenir. A must visit in Philly.
