Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Driver's License Center, Reading

Lancaster Ave, Shillington, PA location. I arrived 1/2 early prior to opening and waited on a relatively short line. Approx. 5 minutes before the official opening, a gentleman came out and efficiently organized the one line into various lines for specific reasons, in the effort to make the process for customers more efficient, and in and out quicker. Also, anyone 60 or over, immediately goes to the front of the line and is escorted inside. They were very aware and conscious about Covid-19. I saw several employees wiping down equipment, chairs, pens, etc.after each use. What a refreshing experience. Every employee I encountered could not have been more welcoming, friendly, helpful and careful. They had managers walking throughout the center asking customers what they could do to help. They even went up to customers to make polite conversation if they saw someone waiting for their turn.
I was there for my REAL ID and the process was painless. Save yourself a possible second visit and bring your passport instead of your birth certificate. REAL ID is a Homeland owned process and they need to see Government issued documents and the passport holds a lot of weight. Birth certificates, yes important, but if you are a woman and you have changed your name since birth (Married name) and it's from a different state, it may not work for you. (I had to go home and get my passport and used that in place of my birth certificate).
There is a fee, and they now accept credit cards as payment. NO CASH.
Thank you to all the employees that I encountered at this Penndot location, you made the start of my day so pleasant.

It was a terrible and a hour trip for the third time
Which has cost me a lot of money 500.00! This state is crazy

Very disappointed in the driver test. How do you “trick a kid” saying turn on this street when it’s not the right street and fail them for “ not suppose to listen to the passenger”? That’s ridiculous!

Wish I could give it a 0. I was there at 8: 30 and we were backed up outside the length of the shopping center. I did not get to a counter for a number until 9 am. Once I got in the door, I had to wait about 90 minutes to get a photo done (I had a camera card). This should not take over two and a half hours!

If you have all your correct papers in order and with you. Show up by 8am, stand in line for the DMV to open at 8: 30 am you wont have to be there long. Once they opened and I got my number I was all done and out of there in 30 minutes. I changed my license to PA license from Tx. It was even easy to have my motorcycle endorsement and veteran put on my license.

People always hate on the DMV, but I had an awesome experience. In and and out in 15 minutes, and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

They are actually improving from how they used to operate. That absolutely makes the difference to me in anything. I get that sometimes poor management makes for poor performance, but this place is turning around! Keep up the good work.

In n out in 1/2 hr with my new pic on my license. Pleasantly surprised n everyone was very helpful and polite.

Went for my learners permit and Waited in line as soon as they opened and got to the front and got sent away because I didn’t have two forms of residency, came back waited over an hour got to the counter and she denied me because the 8 in 2018 in the date wasn’t completely filled in by the doctor and she said it could be a 16 and couldn’t accept the form and turns out she said she didn’t need the mail! Wish I could rate this center a 0

Sliw service and people are waiting outside donde 6: 00 a.m when the place will be open by 8: 00 make no sense.

Waited 1hr and 30 min more than eta (95 min), slow workers, no space packed horrible service needs a major upgrade soon

A lot of complaints about lines & waiting & all. If you want more workers n shorter wait. Go to Harrisburg & Good Luck. Conveniently close so on some things Shillington can handle w/out wait on approval received docs that Main DMV office mails to you. Just my review with facts, no offense intended.

Don't go during peak hours as it will be impossible to get anything done. Staff has wildly varying levels of helpfulness and friendliness.

The people here were great. They helped me tremendously to get a new driver's license. Although the system isn't easy sometimes, they were able to help me on a very, very busy Saturday.

I arrived 10 minutes prior to opening with my camera card (on the 1st day of the month) and was out in 10 minutes. Best experience here in years.

I recomend if you need to take a test, go to the Lebanon location because i waited 5 hours to test just to fail.when it only took me 30 minutes to wait in line at Lebanon.

Arrived at 8: 35am, seated by 8: 42, out of there by 9: 04. Very polite and helpful staff- was changing my out state license to a PA one. No complaints at all:)

Arrived on Friday afternoon at 3: 08 P. M.
The gentleman at the desk was cheerful, funny, and polite. He greeted EVERYBODY in the same manner, and was very helpful to all who needed assistance.
After a staggering 18 minutes my number was called, my picture was taken (4 times because of the glare on my glasses). 5 minutes later I was walking out with my new license.
Great experience here.

The Shillington DMV isn’t capable of handling the volume of people that visit the center. Many turn away after seeing or experiencing the long wait. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation needs an independent facility preferably attached or in close proximity to a law enforcement station. It’s time for an update! In addition the hours of operation is not in no way conducive for citizens that have a full time job. At least two days a week the DMV needs to stay open to 7pm.

The wait times are loooong, and the employees that work there act as though they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. Service is extremely slow; there is no urgency in any task that anybody does there. They are now open on Mondays, but I understand that it is only for certain things. Otherwise it gets extremely overcrowded, and it sure looks to this customer that it could be staffed with more employees, and find some that are a little more energetic. The center also definitely needs more seating. I hate having to go there every 4 years!
