John's Gym Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness reviews
25I stopped training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a couple of years. When I moved to Austin I decided to start training again, alongside my son. I had a list of places to check out in the Austin area, one of them was Paragon Jiu Jitsu. While I was there, one of the guys informed me he used to train at John's Gym and to check it out since I lived in the North Austin area. My first interaction was with Jasmine, she was informative and great to talk to. I had my first class with John, what I enjoyed was the the brief introduction of himself and the gym. He took the time to answer all my questions. My son also enjoyed the kids class. It's a great place to train, my son and I enjoy it and have met great teammates and coaches. I definitely recommend John's Gym.
I moved to Austin not knowing anyone and not knowing the first thing about Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I was a former wrestler and I was looking for a good workout. I found a place where I have an incredible workout and a place where it's more of a family then a gym. I have been training for over 1 year and I still wake up planning my day around going to noon class. If you can relate to the former me (A 40 something/ X athlete and better days were in my 20's.) then come to my gym. I am in better shape today then 15 years ago. If your not finding results or bored of your gym this will be your new home. I have a new purpose and motivation to wake up every morning and train.
I must have researched half a dozen other Brazilian jiu jitsu programs in the Austin area before I joined John's Gym over a year ago. Starting my jiu jitsu journey as an overweight 39 year old was beyond intimidating, but right from the start they put me at ease. Whether it was setting up my first free class with Jasmine online up to walking in my first day at the 620 location where John shook my hand and welcomed me, I couldn't have asked for a better way to begin.
Without exception, every coach and gym member that I have ever met or trained with in the John's Gym family has been positive and selfless.
Pressure, accountability and camaraderie are applied in equal doses to make for a great experience each time I walk through the the door. Everyone here helps everyone so that we can all be the best that we can be.
What a great gym, I joined John's in November of last year. I always wanted to try Jiu Jitsu and never had any martial arts experience. Needless to say I was nervous. From day one I felt welcomed by John, Jasmine and everyone in the gym. After a few short months I have really begun to fall in love with this sport. John is a great instructor who has been patient with a beginner like myself and at the same time a very knowledgeable, encouraging, and motivating person who I truly trust and value. All teammates are a great group of people who have also been very helpful and positive. I feel extremely lucky to be able to train here and look forward to many more years. If you are looking to learn Jiu Jitsu check out John's Gym. I knew from day one this is where I wanted to learn Jiu Jitsu.
