I would like to drop a line to say thank you to Amr Shehata - The Leasing Consultant. He was absolutely the best. I’ve searched at different communities, but no one had such great level of professionalism and customer service he had it. Amr was prompt to get back to my inquiry, available to schedule the tour at my convenience, professionally, and patiently showed the property. He offered several suggestion to fulfill my needs. I couldn’t have been any happier with Amr. The property is old, but they switched to a new management company over the past month or so. Everything was clean and updated with W/D in unit. Definitely recommend it!

We were looking for a short term lease and Mason at Van Dorn is the perfect spot. Even though we would only be there for six months, we wanted somewhere we would be comfortable and feel safe. From the moment we spoke with our rental agent, Mayra, we felt that. We have had a wonderful experience so far, and if I ever need a standard, long term rental I would definitely turn to Mason at Van Dorn.

My husband and I moved in a year ago, and just moved out this month because we bought a house. It's a pretty standard apartment for the area in terms of size and price, but the amenities are great. Super clean and well-stocked gym (our favorite), good grills, a nice clubhouse we used a couple times with friends. The attached convenience store is incredibly convenient, and the owners of the store are great. Maintenance was fairly responsive and fast to fix issues (we had a major bath tub drain clog which was my hair's fault, and a broken garbage disposal which was fixed quickly).

The only real bummer was not being able to use the amenities during much of Covid, but that wasn't really their fault (although I feel like maybe the grills could've stayed open.). They were always nice and helpful, and we enjoyed our time here. The Amazon Hub locker system for getting ALL packages was great and we never had theft issues like at previous places without them. No bug issues like others have mentioned, close to lots of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores within walking distance, and the commuter shuttle that takes you for free to the metro station was fantastic. I used it a lot. Any issues that happened were well-communicated and resolved quickly. Also having a washer/dryer in the unit was amazing to me, who was not used to such things, lol.

I would recommend the place for sure. While it was small (1-bedroom), it was fine for my husband and me. Pros outweigh the cons, and the cons were honestly pretty standard for any apartment situation like that (not being able to use air conditioning during a warm autumn was fairly uncomfortable, and it got HOT on the second floor. So hot we literally never turned the heat on all last winter. Bonus was the utilities were always cheap). Bummer that guests have to pay to park, too. We weren't fans of that, but then again, Covid happened shortly after we moved in, so we didn't have many guests, anyway

The move-out experience was also seamless, which I can't say for many large apartments I've lived in (or even smaller ones)! Also loved being able to pay rent via an app. They are thankfully in the 21st century, which I appreciated very much.

All in all, a great experience. Happy to have lived there, even though it was shorter than we originally intended before finding out we could buy a house.

I recently moved from Skyline to Mason apartments a few months ago and I’ve had nothing but the best services. Maintenance is pretty quick, the people are friendly, the interior of the lobby is always clean, it’s never hard to find parking and so on. The area is quiet and Peaceful. Moving here was the highlight of my year and my husband can probably say the same thing! Thank you for great service!

This will be my 2nd year living here in the same unit and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I have had no major issues and anything I have had concerns about has been addressed in a timely manner. Would definitely recommend. One of the better prices you’ll pay for staying in the Alexandria area!

Speaking for myself, the apartment offers one of the best values for budget in the NoVA area. I live in one of their newly renovated units, where everything was clean and new during my move-in. Located right off the beltway, the apartment offers convenient access to restaurants, grocery stores, and the metro. The apartment also offers a variety of amenities, including a fitness center, as well as a shuttle to the metro station. However, I have experienced some down sides. The elevators are worn, and there are signs of water leaks on the ceilings of some hallways. Guest parking is offered via Pango, which charges $1 per hour; and I have seen one (large) roach since I moved in two months ago. All things considered, I would have no issues extending my lease given the value.

I love living hear, its a great apartment with a lot of amenities. The complains I had were a leaking bathroom on the first day of move in and nonfunctional dishwasher, but the maintenance team is very helpful, they fixed the bathroom right away and replaced the dishwasher by a new one. Other than that, its a great experience.

I moved in 3 months ago, and I am relatively enjoying it so far. I had a messy move in process, the apartment was not cleaned, and there were cockroaches crawling on the ceiling when I did the walk through, hair on the blinds, dust and debris on the floor. I came back and said the apartment was not move in ready with list of demands and they met them. I am hoping the new management team is a little more professional/helpful than Ross Management. The call boxes on the buildings don't work and apparently haven't for months, so when you have a guest you have to get them every time. This isn't a big issue but it would be helpful to get the full story before move in. I wasn't informed the call boxes were broken, and was even lied to saying they were working. It is nearly impossible to get a hold of someone in the office, and when you do they will hang up on you. They need to do a better job at communicating changes, for example there was a memo sent out that the resident portal was down and you could not pay your rent online on the 2nd. (A day after rent was due) This leaves residents scrambling to get rent paid and avoid late charges. I am fine with the changes, but at least give people a fair warning. Overall this place is good for the money, but don't expect star treatment because you won't get it.

I don't have a problem with parking.at least it's better than other apartments I have lived in. Rent is fair for the area and quality and the neighbors are friendly.
But there are so many bugs. Less than a week living here and wow.they even came to "take care" of them but I get home after to find more and more. They stay. I tried all my tricks to get out bugs but none seem to work. I found 3 on my FIRST day here.

Overall decent experience until I left. I decided to take the break lease option in which I covered all basis for submission and early. No further actions requested. However, a month after they sent an outrageous bill close to $3000 pertaining to only the Break Lease Option! (Keep in mind I paid another months rent in order to fulfill the requirement for the break lease option $1789)

Currently still talking to corporate on this issue. If it's not fixed then I'll post my email chain with reference for all future guests.

Pros: Wonderful Amenities, Spacious Rooms, Timely Maintenance (The Best)

Cons: YOU AND YOUR GUEST HAVE TO PAY BY THE MINUTE TO PARK IN VISITORS. The only reason you would want to park in visitors is because it takes 15-30 minutes each day to find parking. It's awful, especially when you have a young child and there is a waitlist for reserved parking $75. Parking is so tight, you will get towed at least twice ($500). I've recently met someone who moved in before I came and said they were towed 5 times. It's literally the worst thing about living here.

Utilities included: Water charge, Water Base charge, Electric charge, Electric base charge, and sewage. I've live in an apartment before and have never seen anything like it. Maybe it's a city thing?

Bugs, never had a problem until the last month. We didn't let pest control in and the next day it rained. Large flying black waterbugs climbed through the pipes in the bathroom. I lived on the third floor, so for anyone on the ground floor, good luck.

I also noticed that the central A/C system would constantly drip into a built in catcher. MOLD in AC!

So overall not bad but as you can see, the closer to the end the more I noticed. As soon as I found somewhere else I booked it and requested a break lease.

Great solid old construction for the buildings but the management team needs to learn how to treat their residents better. Moved into a nice studio and was pretty happy, minus the dirty bathroom and painted over hair on the door, until they tried to charge me more than what I was supposed to pay on my second month. After going around and around with the sales rep, the manager and finally the management company I only had to pay what I was promised when I signed my lease. One great benefit is that the buildings have secured key card entrances but due to poor planning when the new management company took over, my building was left unsecured for close to a month. Came home to no hot water the other day and still had no hot water the next morning. I reported this to the sales team and even Nicole in the management office and was told someone would get back to me regarding compensation and did not hear back from them. This seems to be norm for this management team here.
Parking is an absolute nightmare if you don’t get home before 5: 30pm. I’ve had to walk clear across the community. Better planning by management and possibly selling assigned spots would be a huge improvement.

I've been leaving here for over 3 years. I've never had any issues and even if there were some minor concerns, it was always taken care of immediately. Recently they have changed the management team and what a disaster this new team is! Rude, unprofessional and absolutely unhelpful! They will tell you someone will call you back, but nobody ever does. But even if they do, they will give you so much attitude that you will regret you asked them to call you back. I was going to renew my lease for another year, but on the second thought, there are so many good places around that appreciate their residents.

I have had an on again/off again maintenance issue that crops up in the evenings for months. They never send a person to check it out in the evening and so the maintenance crew can't fix the issue. We've emailed/talked about this a dozen times since summer 2020 and still they do nothing.

Don't move here. They don't care.
